(Reuters) - Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc (N:BRKa) said on Monday it has begun investing in the stocks of four large drugmakers.
In a regulatory filing detailing its U.S.-listed investments as of Sept. 30, Berkshire disclosed new stakes in Abbvie Inc (N:ABBV), Bristol-Myers Squibb Co (N:BMY) and Merck & Co (N:MRK) of more than $1.8 billion (£1.3 billion) each, and a new $136 million stake in Pfizer Inc (N:PFE).
Investors monitor Omaha, Nebraska-based Berkshire's quarterly filings to see where Buffett and his portfolio managers Todd Combs and Ted Weschler see value.
Shares of the four drugmakers rose in after-hours trading, which often occurs when Berkshire discloses new investments, reflecting what investors view as Buffett's imprimatur.
Berkshire did not say whether Buffett made the investments, though larger investments are normally his.
The investments look similar to the multi-billion dollar stakes that Berkshire recently maintained in the four largest U.S. airlines, before selling them in April amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

Presiden PKR Anwar Ibrahim kini sedang menunggu tarikh baru untuk mengadap Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah berhubung usahanya untuk menubuhkan kerajaan baru, kata sumber dari parti itu.
"Kalau nak jujur, perkara ini sangat sulit. Melibatkan institusi diraja. Kebanyakan pemimpin parti tidak mengetahui perkembangan terkini.
"Tapi, saya boleh pastikan satu perkara. Iaitu Datuk Seri (Anwar) sedang menanti tarikh baru untuk mengadap Seri Paduka Baginda," katanya kepada Malaysiakini.
Sumber yang dekat dengan Anwar itu menegaskan Anggota Parlimen Port Dickson itu kini masih mempunyai sokongan majoriti ahli Dewan Rakyat, selepas kira-kira dua minggu membuat sidang media khas untuk mengumumkan perkara itu.

KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 5): Duopharma Biotech stock price has seen a steady rise since July amid vaccine optimism and it is expected to continue its upward momentum as the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has increased its holdings.
An analyst said retail investors usually would mirror the movement of institutional investors which would be on a “buy low sell high” trend.
“The two top pharmaceutical companies in Malaysia, namely Pharmaniaga, which is owned by the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT), and Duopharma would be the biggest gainers once the COVID-19 vaccine is available.

The spike of cases around the world may propel the vaccine released date forward, as many countries can't bear it anymore whether in term of economy of dead figures, they start to make orders and intend to use it as soon as possible despite it's still in phrase three.
Even among experts, they are more and more start to lean toward the idea of having the vaccine first, despite it's not 100% ready yet. A 60% effective vaccine it's still better than none at all as long as it has no serious harmful side effect. The virus won't wait.

Anwar has the numbers to be PM, says Aminuddin

SEREMBAN: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has enough support from MPs to become prime minister, says Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
The state PKR chief said if the Port Dickson MP did not have the support as claimed, he would not have held a press conference to declare it.
"If Anwar did not have the support, it would not have been easy for him to make the statement.
"I am certain he has done his homework like having the number of required statutory declarations to show he has the support from the majority of the MPs," he told reporters when met after handing over certificates and hosting a luncheon for state government retirees.
Aminuddin said he believed the MPs, including from the ruling government, were sincere in their support for Anwar.
On Wednesday (Sept 23), Anwar told reporters he had almost two-thirds support from MPs to form the next government, but stopped short of revealing the numbers.
The Port Dickson MP said he would provide more details once he has had an audience with the King, as that is the respectful thing to do.
Anwar said he has the support from MPs from various parties, including those from Perikatan Nasional.
On a separate matter, Aminuddin said he had been cleared by the health authorities to return to work after returning from campaigning in the Sabah elections on Saturday (Sept 26).
"I was in this rural place called Matunggong in northern Sabah for four days to help in the campaigning.
"While I was there, I adhered to all Covid-19 safety measures and did not go out much or to crowded places," he said, adding that there were no Covid-19 positive cases reported in the area.
Aminuddin said he underwent a swab test upon return and this came back negative.

Dengan kenyataan DS Zahid Hamidi 23 September lalu, maka hilanglah majoriti TS Muhyiddin Yassin dan beliau bukan lagi Perdana Menteri kerajaan majoriti cuma minoriti.
Tiada mana-mana pihak yang mampu menafikan fakta ini.
Ini bermakna TS Muhyiddin secara teknikal tidak lagi mampu membawa sebarang Rang Undang-Undang ke Parlimen untuk diluluskan, dan telah menjadi seorang “lame duck” PM.
Beliau seeloknya letak jawatan sekarang.

KLANG: Many elected representatives in Selangor say they have been aware of the move by PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (pic) to form the Federal Government for quite some time.
Selangor state assembly Speaker Ng Suee Lim said he had been hearing since last month that Anwar Ibrahim would be making some “big changes”.
“The talk had gained momentum on the ground a month ago and I know for a fact that Datuk Seri Anwar has been working very hard to gain support to form the next government, ” said Ng when contacted yesterday.
Ng believes Anwar’s announcement has a strong basis and that is why his party leader, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, had issued a statement backing the PKR president.
“Right now, all we need to do is observe and be prepared to see the mandate returned to the people, ” he said.
Kapar PKR MP Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid said there was much certainty that Anwar would be forming the Federal Government soon.
He claimed Anwar had received strong backing from many Perikatan Nasional MPs who want to see change, which he said would be imminent.
His party colleague and Sentosa assemblyman Gunaraj George hoped the Yang di-Pertuan Agong would expedite the change in government once Anwar gets permission to have an audience with the Ruler.
Tanjong Sepat PKR assemblyman Borhan Aman Shah said he was convinced that there would be a change soon.
“The only issue now is that he is not yet able to have an audience with the King, ” he said.
Selangor Opposition chief Rizam Ismail of Umno said Anwar should go through the right channels if indeed he had the numbers.
