Halim Saad: Sumatec looking to exit PN17 by Q2 of 2014

KUALA LUMPUR: Sumatec Resources Bhd is looking to exit PN17 status in the second quarter of next year. This follows the passing of the resolutions tabled to shareholders at an EGM on Friday.

Major shareholder Tan Sri Halim Saad told reporters after the meeting the company would be debt-free following the completion of its restructuring exercise.

CEO Christopher Layton Dalton said: "Our vision is to be a leading oil and gas counter in Malaysia in the next five years."

With the restructuring, Sumatec is set to transform from an exploration service provider to an exploration and production operator.

"Our strategy is to explore and produce oil from mature onshore assets as the method is less risky," Dalton added.
