For the first time in memory, AirAsia’s 4Q profit was essentially flat QoQ, despite the seasonal peak. 4Q13 core net profit was down 42% yoy despite an 11% rise in ASK capacity, as RASK fell 17% yoy to 14.36 sen on the back of weak pricing. The last time 4Q RASK was lower than this was in4Q09, when jet fuel was 40% cheaper.

In Indonesian the upcoming elections in the second and third quarter of 2014 may put downward pressure on the Rupiah. The outlook for first quarter of 2014 is positive as forward loads in Indonesia are higher compared to the previous year with average fares slightly lower than the previous year.

You won't get them all right!

Even when the warning signs are there, sometimes it still can be hard to let go of a stock. Ideally, you sell a stock when it's up so you can make a profit. But sometimes you have to cut your losses and sell when a stock is down.

So how now, folks? Face the facts and move on. It is wise to direct your anger towards problems not people, to focus your energies on answers not excuses.

Is this the right time to sell?

Sometimes investors use technical analysis to gauge when to sell shares. But there is no proof these signals are accurate over time.

Among the more commonly used technical signals are the 200-day moving average and the support line. With both, you're supposed to sell when a stock's price falls below a certain point regardless of what's going on with the company's fundamentals.

Stock

Time to sell?

The stock's not keeping up. The market's rallying, but your stock isn't. This can be a sign to sell, especially for popular or trendy stocks that tend to move in sync with the market.

For example, if stock was $4, drops to $2 but doesn't bounce back, sell. Yes folks, the truth hurts!

Time to sell? Investors have short memories!!

The stock's too hot. If a company's stock price is soaring but its fundamentals, such as earnings growth, aren't following suit, it's time to sell. A stock with an especially high price-earnings ratio may be the victim of investors' unrealistic expectations.

If the price jumps but the earnings keep up, you won't have to sell. This method can help give you the discipline to dump the stock before it becomes overpriced.

When to sell a stock?

A change in the company's fundamentals. If a company's earnings stop growing, if its top management is forced out, if it stops creating new products, or its products aren't receiving regulatory approval, the company's shares could be headed for a fall.

The truth hurts, folks!

Five reasons why stocks will fall

1. The first reason is that most stocks have gone up an awful lot over the past five years

2. It should be no surprise that many investors and traders have decided to take some money off the table

3. The market has been extremely volatile of late, going up a lot one day, and down about as much on the second. An increase in volatility usually precedes a drop in stocks, as market participants rush to get out of the way by selling en masse

4. The last reason is that perennial fear: geopolitics. In this instance, it is what looks to be a renewal of the Cold War between the United States and Russia. Lots of economies in Europe and elsewhere are dependent on us and Russia for both imports and exports. A new Cold War could put the kibosh on such trade.

5. Economic uncertainty in China will hurts recovery of EMs

The market is wearing no clothes

Just like the emperor, the market is wearing no clothes. Right now, many people see only what they want to believe. It’s been a long time since investors felt full-throated fear, and many have forgotten what it feels like.

The panic to buy will be replaced by the urgency to get out at any price. No one can know what will cause perceptions to change, but they will.

At the moment, emerging markets are in deep trouble, and what is happening in Ukraine didn’t help. Nevertheless, the CEOs of several major brokerage firms have urged investors to “go long” emerging markets because they are so “cheap.”

Once again, these well-educated salesmen are wrong. Emerging markets will recover one day, but not soon. Urging investors to buy on the dip is disgraceful.
