For keen market observers, Minetech Resources Bhd (7219) is definitely a stock to watch for the year 2024, as the stock had soared by 190% for the past year.

Notably, the company had seen an emergence of a new substantial shareholder, Encik Abang Abdillah Izzarim Bin Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari, which had acquired approximately 240 million shares of the company, amounting to a total 15.58% of the total number of shares.

Interestingly, a substantial shareholder of the company which had been “questioned” had exited his 245 million shares in the company. Effectively, Minetech is now in new ownership.

For those who may not know, Abang Abdillah is the son of Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Abang Openg or better known as Abang Jo, and effectively this week, Abang Abdillah is officially the Executive Chairman for Minetech.

‌Abang Abdillah is on the board for Berjaya Land Bhd (4219), as well as the previous Chairman for Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd (9237), which shows how far SCIB’s share price went after Abang Abdillah emerged as the board member.
