AirAsia India targets to break even after one year of operations even in the competitive aviation landscape in India. Although AirAsia's other affiliates in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand took on average two years to break-even, AirAsia group CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes is optimistic that AirAsia India can achieve its target.

Fernandes, who was in Bangalore to "celebrate" AirAsia India's launch, said the airline will now have six planes by December. "We need to accelerate our plane induction plan. Our load factors are great. The response is very impressive," said Fernandes.

"We are already making money on our Bangalore-Goa flights which is unbelievable and unprecedented," said Fernandes. Ismail also said AirAsia may apply for international operations as soon as India relaxes rules for overseas flying.
