The Baltic Exchange Dry Index extended losses for a third straight session, falling 2% to 5,378 on Tuesday, but not far from its highest since 2008, as capesize vessel rates continued to drop. The capesize index, which tracks iron ore and coal cargos of 150,000-tonnes, declined 3.9% to 9,590, but held close to its highest level since 2008; while the panamax index which tracks cargoes of about 60,000 to 70,000 tonnes of coal and grains, rose 0.7% to 3,906, its second straight session of gains.
