Following the purchase cancellation, AT Systematization said it will be focusing on building up its own glove production capacity via the establishment of a new plant in Perak.

"Despite the setback in relation to the proposed acquisition of Pearl Glove, the group said we remain committed to accelerate the completion of our glove manufacturing plant in Perak, through which we target to see the delivery of our first batch of nitrile gloves by the end of this year. This would enable revenue contribution from the new glove business in the current financial year of 2021 (FY21),” said AT Systematization's managing director Choong Lee Aun.

AT SYSTEMATIZATION Bhd’s venture into the glove manufacturing business edged ahead after the company entered into a partnership with medical equipment provider LKL International Bhd, to market, sell and distribute the natural latex rubber gloves and nitrile gloves it will make starting next month.

In a statement released last Friday, AT Systemization stated that the agreement was signed between its wholly owned subsidiary, AT Glove Engineering Sdn Bhd (ATGE), and LKL unit, LKL Advance Metaltech Sdn Bhd.

The agreement will be for an initial period of one year from the date of the agreement and is renewable after, in line with the expected commencement of ATGE’s glove manufacturing production early next month.

The gloves produced by AT Systematization are to be distributed to hospitals and healthcare institutions, with a targeted volume of 2.6 billion pieces yearly, based on the assumption of AT Systemization’s production lines running at 24 hours per day and 30 days per month.

LKL MD Lim Kon Lian said the agreement will allow AT Systemization to tap into the networks and help target customers quickly.

“This is also timely as it enhances our capabilities in fulfilling urgent market requirements for gloves as we continue to receive increasing inquiries from existing and potential customers,” he said.

Lim added that the group looks forward to growing with innovative players like AT Systemization and extending the reach to both local and international markets.

“We aim to form collaborations to bring healthcare solutions that can better equip providers and raise the bar for the quality of medical services,” he said.

AT Systemization ED Mak Siew Wei said the collaboration with LKL will boost its pursuit to become a leading glove manufacturer player.

“We are on track to reach a production capacity of 2.6 billion glove pieces per annum. On top of these, we have begun preliminary planning works for additional glove production lines that would further raise our production capacity to facilitate additional demand.

“We are positive that this will pave the way for greater collaboration with LKL International in the future,” he said.

AT Systemization is expected to begin producing gloves starting next month from Line 1 at its facility in Perak, according to its recent exchange filing, with two lines installed the following month till it instals a total of one single-former dipping line and 12 double-former dipping lines by mid-2021, to meet the annual production target of 2.6 billion gloves.
