Petronas didn't take a huge loan to buy the rights to drill for oil, SKPetro took multiple loans to (1) buy the Newfield stake (2) to finance the deepsea oil rigs/ships. This QR has to be bad because crude oil was at USD 30-40 range last quarter, they will have to base their assets based at the prices then. Another huge impairment on the way.

Low prices for crude oil is here to stay, cost USD40 per barrel and Shell has billions of barrels ready to be turned on "at the drop of an hat". Die 100% conventional deepsea, SKPetro cost of oil per barrel is way higher after buying New field. They have deep-sea oil drilling rigs & ships which is going to be a liability soon as well.

EPF has been supporting the share price of this SKPetro since it was included in the KLCI component stocks but has now for the past few days selling it in big volume (see bursa announcements).
Maybe now EPF has inside news (1)SKPetro will be kicked out of KLCI thus no need to support (2) imminent QR is super bad (3) or both.....

Even if Saudi & Iran reduce production so that the price goes up, you think USA shale oil producers won't start pumping again? And when shale players start pumping, OPEC lose market share again so how? Saudi strategy is to keep pumping as much as they can because they have billions of barrels of oil, world getting modern and efficient, using less oil, if Saudi don't sell it, later this oil won't be much demand anymore

But FF can unload a little every single day knowing EPF will try to save the day, so instead of disposing in 1 huge sale order, FF will break orders into smaller daily sell orders to maximise their returns

EPF acts like a buffer to absorbs excessive price fluctuations, they will try to buy stocks linked to index when it drops too much
