@assell The official distributor for Sinopharm vaccines in Malaysia is Kanger. IOI has a different role ie they plan to collaborate with Sinopharm subsidiary to build covid vaccine manufacturing and fill-and-finish for private sector use. This will take a long time to build and be inspected and approved by NPRA, not to mention time for technology transfer. It would probably take few years to achieve and it will not be able to be accomplished in the immediate future.

@huatkopi88 The WHO list is referring to fast track list for stringent regulatory authorities such as USFDA, European Medicines Agency and Japan's Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency
Drugs and vaccine which have already been approved by such authorities will be eligible for fast track approval. China is not on that list but that doesn't mean that the vaccines approved by China's National Medical Products Administration are not eligible for WHO approval. It just takes slightly longer via the normal approval route ie not the fast track route. Sinopharm already has experience prior to this obtaining WHO approval. So chances of obtaining WHO approval for Sinopharm vaccine is high.

----------------------
The dominant player in China’s vaccine industry is state-owned SINOPHARM’s subsidiary China National Biotechnology Group, comprising seven manufacturers – one of which is the Chengdu Institute of Biological Products, the producer of the JAPANESE ENCEPHALITIS VACCINE that was PREQUALIFIED last year.

In 2010, the China National Biotechnology Group supplied over 740 million doses of 34 vaccines for 28 diseases, representing more than 85% of the vaccines used in China’s immunization programme. The remaining vaccines are purchased by middle-class Chinese families.

China has been exporting vaccines for diphtheria, hepatitis B, measles, pertussis, polio, tetanus and yellow fever to poor countries for decades through bilateral aid programmes, says Xu, but “WHO PREQUALIFICATION of the JAPANESE ENCEPHALITIS VACCINE is a game changer.”

@UlarSawa Usually western authorities will not authorize use of vaccines without complete phase III data. However, the covid situation in western countries is so severs that they have to consider emergency use of the vaccines based on interim phase III data which is what they are doing now. So before they can even apply for emergency use, they have to release the interim phase III data to public. The emergency use authorization is not for general public use. It is only for frontliners and high risk groups like elderly, those with heart disease, diabetes, obese etc. Once the complete phase III data is released, only then can the authorities fully approve the vaccine for general public use...

As for China, the covid situtation now is under control. Hence, there is no need to release the interim phase III data yet until it is complete and the vaccine has been approved by the authorities. Once the vaccine is approved, it will most probably be for gereral public use. We have to be patient. The phase III data will be released very soon....

Sinopharm has obtained WHO pre-qualification for their vaccines prior to this. Hence, they have the experience and know what it takes to produce world class vaccines.

--------------

The WHO released news on October 9, 2013, the Japanese encephalitis attenuated live vaccine produced by Chengdu Biological Products Co of Sinopharm passed WHO prequalification for the first time. The approval recognizes the vaccine’s safety and efficacy by the WHO and can be prosured UN agencies procurement. It will make contributions to the global combat against Japanese encephalitis.
