Kazakhstan: Is Shymkent Tycoon a Coup Plotter or Fall Guy?

A military court in Kazakhstan last week began hearings behind closed doors in the trial of one of the country’s wealthiest men.

Tohtar Tuleshov, a prominent brewery tycoon in the southern city of Shymkent, stands accused of planning and financing an attempt to violently seize power. Court proceedings are being kept classified, but the tone for the state’s case against Tuleshov was set by a documentary aired on private television station KTK over the weekend.

The documentary, titled “Shymkent Excesses,” dwelled for the most part on Tuleshov’s allegedly criminal behavior, as well as his supposed fondness for garish opulence. Although the makers of the documentary never spell it out, circumstantial evidence indicates that the content and slant of the program constitutes a public relations assault on Tuleshov that is seemingly intended to justify the government’s case against him.

Those familiar with Tuleshov’s background tend to agree that he makes an unlikely political agitator. One theory being circulated by political observers is that the downfall of Tuleshov constitutes a setback for political players in the south of Kazakhstan, in the regions around where the businessman had his power base. It thus may be a signal of political infighting behind the scenes.

Wow : who is SAYINg This, Shahul Hamid's daughter from Daya, PAPA, dodos, Rohank or the KHAZAKSTAN Government. The key word here is VIOLENT overthrow

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia—Malaysia’s national oil company is looking to cut several hundred more jobs as it continues to grapple with weak oil prices, according to two people familiar with the matter.

Petroliam Nasional Bhd., known as Petronas, is planning the job cuts at its publicly listed operations, according to the people.

The company, which provides most of the government’s oil and gas revenue, said in March that it was cutting 1,000 jobs. This came after Petronas said it would slash spending by some $11.4 billion over the next four years, following similar moves by major global oil companies including Royal Dutch Shell PLC facing the crude-price downturn.

Petronas had 53,000 employees as of the end of 2015, according to its latest annual report.

Petronas said Tuesday that it continually reviews its business strategies and staffing levels as it adjusts to changes in demand. “This transformation exercise cuts across the entire Petronas group, including at subsidiary levels,” the company said in a statement. “More information will be disclosed as and when appropriate.”

The company has three major business units listed on the Malaysian exchange: chemicals producer Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd., gas processing company Petronas Gas Bhd. and gasoline-station operator Petronas Dagangan Bhd.--all of which are included in the country’s 30-stock benchmark index.

Oil! Massive shale discovery in Texas
By Matt Egan September 08, 2016 13:17PM EDT
An overlooked corner of West Texas is believed to contain billions of barrels of newly-discovered shale oil.
Apache (APA) revealed the huge find this week after more than two years of stealthily buying up land, extensive geological research and rigorous testing.
The Houston company estimates the discovery, dubbed "Alpine High," could be worth at least $8 billion.
Apache believes the new shale play spans at least five formations, contains over three billion barrels of oil and 75 trillion cubic feet of rich natural gas.
"We feel very confident with what we have and believe this is a story that's only going to get better," Apache CEO John Christmann IV told CNNMoney

Now why do we believe Reach Energy QA is a disaster waiting to happen? Well the reasons are ABSOLUTELY CLEAR. The KHAZAKSTAN Tenge now against the US dollar is at 341.A year ago it was at 250. Assuming, the cost of REACH venture is ALL in dollar.. the costing is going to run away. And interest rates in Khasakstan has gone up year on year by MORE than 200 per cent. DO NOT forget S&P expects ZERO growth for KHAZAKSTAN this year and says NEXT year might even be WORSE.
WOW : An economy in recession and with a devaluation means something is wrong.

Rating lowered from B+ to B, outlook now stable from negative
GDP seen contracting 1 percent in 2016, grow 2 percent in 2017
S&P Global Ratings downgraded Nigeria further into junk territory just as Africa’s most populous nation prepares to issue its first Eurobond since 2013, amid low oil prices and severe shortages of foreign exchange.
S&P lowered Nigeria’s rating one level to B, five levels below investment grade and in line with Kyrgyzstan and Angola. The outlook was changed from negative to stable.
“Nigeria’s economy has weakened more than we expected owing to a marked contraction in oil production, a restrictive foreign exchange policy and delayed fiscal stimulus,” S&P said Friday in an e-mailed statement after markets closed. While government debt remains low, “servicing costs as a percentage of general government revenues are high and rising,” the company said. “An economy in recession and with a devaluation means something is wrong,” Babajide Solanke, an analyst at Lagos-based FSDH Merchant Bank Ltd., said by phone from the commercial hub.

'Be worried: Serious economic crisis on horizon' – Jim Rogers

Investor Jim Rogers has some sobering words on the future of the global economy. Even though the leading oil producers are working on price stabilization, he warns another significant economic crash could be on the cards within a couple of years.
Oil prices spiked on Monday after Russia and Saudi Arabia agreed working toward market stabilization. The two countries are setting up a working group to help support prices, after the collapse in 2014.

RT: What can the two countries do to stabilize prices?

Jim Rogers: The Saudis have made it clear they don’t want to cut production and they are right, in my view. I am not Saudi Arabian so I can’t tell them what to do. The Russians want to cut production, that’s not what I would do. I would let the market play itself out. It is taking a while but the high cost producers are closing down and going out of business. You are forcing the high cost exploration to stop. There is no exploration. Exploration budgets are cut by ninety percent. This eventually means no oil supply, and the price goes through the roof again. Why would you sell your oil down at these prices if you could wait and sell it later?

RT: People are trying to steady the oil market. A couple of countries are discussing freezing output. But if they freeze output to summer levels, that would ensure the continued flooding of the market and continued low prices, yes or no?

JR: Yes, you are making my case. Why bother? Let the market sort it out. The market is sorting it out. The Canadian oil sands cannot make money right now. The frackers in America cannot. The people in deep drilling cannot make money. The budgets are drying up. Take your time, be patient.

RT: Russia was severely hit by the falling prices, but Saudi Arabia now is trying to make some moves for some sort of sense of normality. What’s prompting Riyadh to make moves these days?

JR: Saudi Arabia is running out of money, too. You may know they just borrowed huge amounts of money. They have a gigantic budget. They are keeping a lot of people on the payroll in Saudi Arabia… But that’s good because that forces the market to adjust eventually. But in the meantime, Saudi Arabia is suffering, Venezuela, Nigeria, Kazakhstan, Russia, they all are suffering.

WOW : JIM ROGERS says Khasakstan is SUFFERING
