COVID-19 has morphed into a political tool in many other countries around the world.

Like the common flu, it is highly contagious. Older people are at greater risk at contacting it because their immune system is weaker.

6/4 is a myth of thousands being killed in the square. yet it persisted till today and people just choose what they want to hear and believe. “Trump lies and People dies” to a tune of 107.000 lives and still counting. Should they hold a vigil next year for this complacency by the American leadership?

Data is only good for mental masturbation if being number 12 does not translate in how well we are viewed by our own government and others.
Also how we are still trapped with no clear exit strategy despite being green in some states and districts for more than a month.

At number 12 we cannot even go for a haircut today.

I clearly see U.S are losing. U.S response to Covid has make it undeniable. Have to admit that Canada's capabilities to test Covid fell behind third world african countries . The US spending enormous amount of money on healthcare as a portion of GDP or as absolute sum no matter how we look at this was not able to serve much smaller population - we simply were not able to produce as many ventilators as China did in much shorter terms. The fatality is higher in the US than in China not because China has hidden the severity but because US healthcare system is not scalable and ill prepared . Look at Germans - they have even lower mortality than China. Why? Are they hiding anything too? Should I mention quickly build data centers and systems with petabytes of data information flow in order to manage and track the spread of disease. Everything was built at once . I can continue the list of where U.S are behind - G5, quantum radars, AI natural language processing , building skyscrapers in 7 days and fully equipped hospitals in 10. Yes Elon Musk sets new space suits fashion trends but what China does now is scaring me - they leading new development in CBDC block chain new protocols for business transactions. They are rewriting books of future and not just rewriting they are implementing them at full speed in the same manner they built these hospitals . This is scary. Sometimes I see this like alien technologies being deployed behind our back while we spend time discussing

HI gooddaymate,There is no decline of the USA. There is a decline of individualistic indulgence based economies. They are not sustainable long term. The future of the world is not in wining one system over another. Convergence of the systems is the answer. The west will have to become more like China in order to compete with China and the China will have to become more like West in order to compete with West. In the end it doesn't matter who wins and who declines. It will be the same winning order with the same principles and system. No matter how it is labelled: Liberalized China or Socialized West

HI GothicRock, Most of what you have been using while writing this comment was made in China. The world is too addicted to Chinese products to abruptly cut it. They will continue to need it so contractors will continue to come to China. So China will give them new system more modern, faster and more secure. Yes Yuan will be in trouble but for a few years while the dollars system will be already blasted. Plus weaker Yuan will boost the demand again... Again China is playing long term.

As to the "nuclear" Swift button, China is rapidly preparing its own system . The started deploying it a year ago . That makes me think that this "leaked" Chinese "fear" and this specific post were carefully designed to seed this idea in Trump's head, because China actually wants this button be pressed by Trump later, but with all the havoc that would come after this event China doesn't want to be responsible for it. By the time when when Trump will press this Swift button, China will be ready to push all its trade partners to switch to their own superior global digital system that is being launched right now. There would not be a better reason to do so than the fact that the SWIFT would be disconnected from China.
Ideally, China will be ready in 10 month for this scenario .
But now they are not sure that the president capable of falling into this trap will be re-elected. Trump might not be around when China needs him . So they started playing earlier ahead of schedule hoping Trump will push this button before he is gone. This message is designed to seed the idea and to give an impression of big fear if that would happen.

The West are losing game to China. China thinks strategically making moves that will give advantage in generations. In contrast the West don't believe in long term strategy other than their own Game theory - postulating that the system works best if all the players in this system pursue their own short-sighted interest in their moments.
This theory is the best engine winning short battles. But it is not working for long term projects lasting generations simply because there are not enough agents in the system interested in outcomes beyond 1 generation lifespan. Either Western politicians or Western businesses they don't invest into something that will pay off in next life. This is our weakness where China hits us. To be exact, we are being hit by ourselves because we now lag behind the other fast developing world . To me it is no longer a question if China can overcome the West. The bigger question now is if China can overcome China. China will not succeed in outer World without changing in it's very core. If China claims to poses ancient wisdom then they should understand (or remember at least) that what you are trying to change or to shape actually changes and shapes yourself

You think industry players will all play to your tune? The state governments may have their own concerns which are equally legitimate, and they are well entitled within their own jurisdiction to determine what, when and how businesses should re-open.

What Malaysian businesses want is for the federal government to provide leadership, to plan, pre-empt, instead of coming up with such last-minute decisions.

Just because the decision has finally and belatedly made, does not mean everybody needs to go back to work all at once. In fact, that might well be reckless.

You should go and advise the backdoor PM to convene a full parliamentary session. Don't wait for relief laws and measures to be debated in July.

Debate now so that Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) can help draft it for passage in July. If you only wait until July, where is the public consultation and engagement?

All this shows is (1) PN is running scared and (2) it is ill-prepared for the next steps - probably flying by the seat of its collective pants just to get these sets of SOPs out.

For something so simple, why do they make it so complicated?

I am for opening of the economy. But to give three days’ notice, and after which you threatened to sue, doesn't sound good on you as the minister.

The state government has every right to protect the people's health and businesses of their respective states.

Life: I believe that one of the main reasons that this government "re-opens" the economy so hastily is because the government could be running out of funds under the Special Relief Fund (SRF) for SMEs (small and medium enterprises).

This is disastrous for many SMEs. There is much hype, emphasis and talk from the government on this relief fund to help SMEs tie over their cashflow at affordable interest rates over the next six months due to this crisis.

Bank Negara could have informed the government last week on the situation on the SRF Fund hence this sudden and hasty action by the government on May 1. If it is a well-thought-out decision as what the government says, it would not have been just a three-day notice to Malaysians.

This situation is similar to the previous announcement when the wage subsidy fund had Allegedly dried-up… sigh.

FancyMe , I wonder how travel between countries is going to be solved. Singapore are pushing to open boarders because out of all the ASEAN countries, they are the ones most effected by closed boarders.

I think we're going to see green permits to travel between "safe" countries but whether that expands to tourism, I've no idea how to justify it.

Good point on the flip flopping side. All these illegal immigration started a long time ago due to inconsistent government policies that in the beginning, was done largely to tilt the vote banks (refer to Sabah in 1990s). Then the Ministry that the late Megat Junid headed, found that it could be a lucrative personal venture as well through the monopolisation of agency recruitment both abroad and at home. From that point on, it started getting out of control and the immigration Department got into the act as well. We need to have a total immigration labour reform. There is no problem legalising it and I think everyone in Malaysia knows we are now dependent on foreign labour and have to accept them as part of our society. But it needs proper regulation and policies. And then the transparent enforcement can set in. At the moment, we are subject to scrupulous middle men, agents, smugglers, government officers, enforcement people, crony contracts (even the medical screening of foreign labour is ‘privatised”), snake heads at both ends.....it is a total MESS

My exact sentiments on why wearing the mask is not made compulsory when we have practiced self isolation, followed diligently the MCO rules and regulations to avoid contact from the virus transmitted through cough/touch/ and from sprays of cough or sneezes.
The government's decision not to make the mask compulsory most likely is an economical one. Should it be compulsory for everyone to wear mask, our nation may have a massive mask shortage and the government cannot afford to give away masks or import/buy more mask to equip the nation for the next few months. The price at RM1.50 is already ludicrously expensive for the average working class Malaysian. Frontliners in hospitals and retail will have to wear new ones daily so overall the cost outweighs its advantage. In the end, sadly its always about the money not the health aspect.

If you perceive that this place is filthy and people everywhere are coughing, sneezing and not clean, you wear mask at least that you dont breath the filth. But masks are not cheap and not easily available.so can make your own--whatever style. If people understand that , you need not tell , they will know what to do.

But covid-19 is a pandemic issue. The perception is one of fear of contracting the infection. That we know there were the Tabligh and import clusters and later foreigners. And the foreigners seem to be the unclear factor -not knowing when they are coming or where they are going or hiding. So they can be anywhere like the covid-19. So as a prevention, it is better to wear than not wearing if you are outside your home. This people will understand.
