Salary cut

As an aside: shame on all those politicians, anywhere in the world, but especially in Malaysia, who failed to show the moral compunction, as Ardern has, to take a 20% salary cut for six months. Or as the politicians in the state of Victoria in Australia, who gave up their pay hike for 12 months, donating it to charities. Or the prime minister Scott Morrison and his cabinet, who buried their heads in sand over taking a pay cut as the country’s unemployment rate looks set to soar beyond 10%, twice the pre-Covid-19 number.

Even the lunatic Trump didn’t give up a dime of his US$400,000 a year salary, or Mike Pence, who’s paid US$235,000 just to look pretty as Trump’s co-stagecoach rider. In fact, Trump donated US$100,000, his last quarter salary, to the severely underfunded Department of Health and Human Services but most Americans say it’s a sham. Read here for more.

Noor Hisham came across as completely trustworthy. This isn’t a word you’d use cavalierly on politicians generally but especially on Malaysian politicians in a country renowned for greed, selfishness and endless racism, corruption and kleptomania.

He presented himself at media briefings himself as if he were in full control of the facts. Needless to say, he was not. He was cagey at first. Heck, he was cagey throughout. Then his confidence grew and he played to the gallery. He must have thought this was his chance to shine, to be anointed prime minister-in-waiting after his cousin leaves the country’s money-vaults. As they say: give a politician a ‘live’ television camera and a microphone and he or she will sing Canto pop-songs long into the night.

He thought he was in full charge of the facts. And when he wasn’t, he tried to pass the buck (read microphone) to somebody else. Trouble was: none of the dimwits knew any better than Hishammuddin or Najib Razak, who, incidentally, made himself quickly scarce from the media briefings. I suppose he had lots of state institutions to allegedly liquidate and take his wife Rosmah Mansor on international shopping sprees.

Noor Hisham, conversely, was a steady-hand. He steadied the ship at a time when, if left to the interlopers of the ‘Belakang Masuk’ regime, would have gone amok with a hellfire of announcements and pronouncements that, if not utterly confusing or meant to confuse, would surely have obfuscated the situation, as dire as it was or could have been.

Noor Hisham was like his US counterpart Dr Anthony Fauci, who at times contradicted his lunatic boss Donald Trump, who – surprise, surprise – didn’t sack him like he had so many others before who’d trampled on his fat toes, a.k.a. the Trump authority.

The other person the CGTN heaped praise on was New Zealand’s health director-general Ashley Bloomfield, who worked closely with the intelligent Kiwi prime minister Jacinda Ardern

A voice of reason and reassurance in Covid-19 fight

The veritable cynic in me is going against his proper instinct for a bit. I must say –cough, splutter, ugh! – that I’ve been suitably impressed with the ‘Belakang Masuk’ regime of Muhyiddin Yassin. Much to my surprise, it has not so much as handled as how the Covid-19 crisis was managed.

It was managed quite superbly. So much so, I’m stunned. I did think the regime of interlopers were out of their depth every which way. All of them. Collectively. So what happened?

What happened wasn’t Muhyiddin, really. It wasn’t anyone in the regime for that matter. Far from it. The Muhyiddin regime would’ve been running around like, as Australians like to say, headless chooks (chickens).

It was one man on whom even the Chinese Communist Party-controlled China Global TV Network (CGTN) – propaganda purveyors, of course – heaped high praise just the other day, when the infection and death rates began to stabilise and – lo and behold! – climb down.

That man is Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, whose name gets a paragraph. As it should.

Noor Hisham was throughout the voice of calm and candour. He was measured. He was professional. He told it as he saw it. He didn’t colour Covid-19. He didn’t fudge the statistics, as Malaysia is so historically inclined to do. He didn’t blame anyone. He didn’t point the finger at China either.

Noor Hisham was entirely above politics.

Noor Hisham was so unlike Hishammuddin Hussein. Remember him? When MH370 disappeared, long after it was tracked by Malaysian air force radar ‘turning back’ over northern Malaysia and vanished into the southern depths of the Indian Ocean, Hishammuddin, who moonlighted as defence minister, turned the disaster into a political sideshow.

Dozens of food delivery riders had gathered outside a shopping mall in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The convergence was not because there were famous eateries at the mall or increased demand for deliveries due to the movement control order (MCO) being in force.

Meantime those private sector employees and self employed will have to bite the bullet harder and brace for more difficult months ahead even after MCO. I think it is high time for the SME & Retail employers to re think their business strategy if the MCO is going to be extended. Cut loss and close down their business and dismiss all their happy holidaying employees enjoying full pay when the backdoor government is rendering little or no help to them. Start afresh in maybe 9 months or 15 months later savings overhead and taxes during this period to enjoy a nice holiday with their hard earn money. Let the Malay first backdoor government take care of the unemployed.

We have not 'cleaned or disinfected" the tabligh group. They are roaming around.Sometimes it is necessary to suffer pain now for future safety. The virus will return with a vengeance this time.

MCO: PM to address nation at 4pm

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will address the nation in a live telecast at 4pm today.

He is expected to announce the National Security Council’s decision on an extension to the Movement Control Order (MCO) imposed amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The live telecast will be available on several local television networks.

Yesterday, Health Ministry director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said he will brief the Prime Minister on the latest updates on the outbreak for a decision to be made on the MCO’s extension.

The MCO, which started on March 18, is scheduled to end on April 14.

As of noon on Thursday, Malaysia recorded 4,228 total Covid-19 cases and 67 deaths.

The ITK (Imbuhan Tetap Keraian) aka Fixed Entertainment Allowance is as follows:

KSN (Ketua Setiausaha Kerajaan) - RM 5300/month
(Mohd Zuki Ali himself)

Gred Utama Turus I - RM 5200/month
(DG of MOH if not mistaken)

Gred Utama Turus II - RM 5100/month

Gred Utama Turus III - RM 5000/month

Gred Utama A - RM 4000/month

Gred Utama B - RM 3050/month

Gred Utama C - RM 2500/month

5-10% is basically nothing in comparison to their overall renumeration.

The question is : with the MCO in effect, where, what, how is the entertainment allowance going to be spent by these super senior govt staff?

Perhaps a consideration of at 100% suspension of the allowance for 6 months to be considered.

Stock

2020-04-10 13:15 | Report Abuse

And MP's getting financial help. Senior's getting entertainment allowance when the MCO is in place. Civil servants and those in the private sector getting allowances even after collecting their salaries.

Poor people who are jobless getting caught and either jailed or fined 1000.00 for trying to survive.

What is going on in this nation ? Why is precious monies given to the wrong people ?

MOH have to get donations for their PPE attire. Hundreds of them are sick while in the line of duty due to not having proper attire.

Yet these people had to wait for them to be donated. Here we are giving precious funds to those that are not in need.

If this MCO is extended, there will be a serious financial situation. Funds must be ùsed for people that are in dire straits and out of employment. Not for trying to play politics to win some sympathy.

This is not cutting salaries but entertainment allowances, when there is no entertaiment going on.

Hello PN/KSN,

What a joke.
In fact all civil servants with an earning of more than RM 10,000 should take a 10% pay cut with all entertainment, travel & non
critical allowances frozen. On the other hand, there should be no pay & allowance cut for those from MOH, police, military, frontliners.

Civil servants should join & bear the pain of this nation.

There are so many academic researches and the experience of many super investors in the world showing that it works, it always works in the long-term, as well as the short-term, but not all the time true in the latter though?

There are other reasons which I do not wish to tell what stocks I buy.

I could be wrong in my assessment, and I might have cut loss later. I do not wish to inform anyone or justify those mistakes nor my action. I have better thing to do with my time.
My personal risk profile and time horizon is different from yours. I could be investing for cyclic stocks at the low cycle for potentially high gain in short to midterm. Or I could be investing in high quality stock for long-term and it takes a long time for things to play out, and meanwhile if you follow me, you will be cursing that when other stocks are booming but mine not
The kind of business I am interested is different from yours, for example I may like to invest in high dividend yield and high free cash flows liquor company, tobacco and gaming but you don’t like sin stuff. You may like banking stocks, but I may not.
My knowledge in other companies is limited, but they could be better companies to invest in. Hence following me may miss your chance of better investment.

the financial interpretation and analysis and valuation of the stocks in the portfolios. The first portfolio generated a return of 146%, compared with the benchmark index’s return of 20% over the five-year period; and the second 175% versus the benchmark of 10% over the same period.

Even then, there were numerous attacks on me personally for investing in a couple of companies (out of 20) which did not perform well, and on a microcap company which its share price actually rose way above its perceived intrinsic value in a short-term of a couple of months. That raised the doubt of my value investing strategy. I had to spend quite some time to “defend” them. That was really a waste of my time. This was my main reason which I do not wish to share my stock pick to the public. What for?

“A wise man adapts himself to circumstances, as water shapes itself to the vessel that contains it.”

I started sharing in i3investor from the knowledge I have acquired through some of the super investors in US and a couple from locally. I started with writing comments and sharing some investing strategies such as the Magic Formula, Cold Eye 5 yardsticks, high dividend yield investing strategy, as well as asset-based investing. Many people in i3investors asked me if their stocks met those criteria, and I have taken the time and trouble to find out through the financial statements and answered them accordingly based on quantitative analysis. I still remembered many of those stocks which I suggested meeting the criteria jumped in prices. Those were the good times and I think I have sowed some goodwill in i3investor.

Why should investors return in April There are four core reason to this.

Firstly, we have the traditional window-dressing activities, which tends to see some sort of buying interest among fundamentally beaten down stocks. This happens among stocks which are widely held by institutional shareholders and are significantly lower in value than the start of the year and hence some sort of buying momentum could help fund managers to make their year-to-date performance “much better” and reflect the index’s performance.More good news is covid19 is at ending stage.

Second, we are in the midst of the Q1 reporting season , all companies, especially with the December year-end, would report their bottom line numbers in terms of their performance. While Q1 earnings could dictate market’s reaction, i.e. if the reported profits are either above or below estimate, what typically happens at the end of the Q1 period is the change in broking firm’s valuation matrix.

Analysts would roll-over their fair values of the stocks under their coverage based on the coming months earnings expectations, i.e. next year’s full year earnings forecast will now come into play instead of the 2020 performance. This typically lifts market’s perception on value as companies that are valued based on one-year forward earnings are likely to be more attractive than current year’s earnings, on the assumption that growth trajectory is still intact or improving.
Third, as we usher in the year 2020, somewhere between JUN effect will come into the picture as investors will start to nimble and re-adjust their portfolio for next year’s market’s theme as well as re-positioning on stocks where some fund managers could have locked-in their gains based on this year’s individual stock’s performance.

Fourth, although this is not a typical strategy but markets tend to have a positive momentum going into the 2021, which is celebrated as early as Jan next year, and not more than three weeks into the trading cycle of the Gregorian New Year.

Hence, with four positive catalysts helping sentiment, perhaps it’s an opportune time to look at the potential beneficiaries of this momentum.

As far as 2020 is concerned, covid19 is going to passes by. We had very strong winners in 2020 among the IR4.0 companies, DRIVEN BY SENTIMENT AND PROJECT AWARDS. SO WHEN TO BUY ARBB(7181)SHARES? I SAY ITS NOW ! NOW OR NEVER ! THE COMPANY HAS A BRIGHT FUTURE,AND ARBB(7181) IS GOING IN THE RIGHT PATH IR4.0! ARBB(7181)PRICE MAY SHOOT UP ANYTIME SOON!
