Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will table Budget 2024 in parliament on Friday, Oct 13. The second budget to be announced by the unity government is expected to be expansionary and one that tackles the rising cost of living.

Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli was recently quoted by Bloomberg as saying that the country is counting on a plan to cut subsidies next year to help narrow the budget deficit and thereby avoid resorting to too many new taxes. An annual savings of US$1 billion to US$2 billion a year is expected from the shift to targeted subsidies as Malaysia aims to lower the budget gap to about 4.6% of gross domestic product in 2024.

Specific areas of focus during the budget are expected to be on healthcare facilities, such as the setting up of more health clinics, while construction and solar companies are expected to be the main beneficiaries of the upcoming budget, following the recent unveiling of the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 and the National Energy Transition Roadmap.
