· VS (Trading Buy, TP: RM1.65). VS is testing its strong resistance level at RM1.52 after spiking 11.0 sen yesterday to RM1.52. This was on the back of a jump in trading volume. Chart-wise, yesterday’s chart displayed a long-white ‘Marubozu’-like candlestick. Key indicators are also ticking upwards, as the MACD is closing in on the Signal Line while RSI and Stochastic continue to head north despite the latter breaching overbought territory. Should follow-through buying interest continue, we believe the share price could look to retest its immediate resistance level of RM1.62 (R1). However, we believe strong support remains at RM1.39 (S1) level.

VS Industry's 4Q net profit jumps 44% on forex gain
Published at 2015-09-29 19:28:05 by The Edge

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 29): VS Industry Bhd saw its net profit jump 44% to RM52.70 million or 4.79 sen per share for the fourth quarter ended July 31, 2015 (4QFY15), from RM36.50 million or four sen per share a year earlier.

The earnings improvement was despite a 5% contraction in revenue to RM506.84 million in the current quarter, from RM534.45 million in 4QFY14.

The company declared an interim single tier dividend of 1.2 sen per share for the year ended July 31, 2015.

The group saw a net foreign exchange gain of RM24.44 million during the quarter, amid the strengthening of the US dollar.

Additionally, VS Industry attributed the improved quarterly earnings to better sales mix by its Malaysian operations. Its operations in Indonesia and China both reported losses.

For the full financial year ended July 31 (FY15), net profit more than doubled to RM132.74 million, from RM53.633 million in FY14, while cumulative revenue rose 13% to RM1.94 billion, from RM1.72 billion in the previous year.

Going forward, VS Industry expects to perform well in its following financial year, as the operational environment remains strong in Malaysia.

"With continued strong support from the existing customers, new potential customers and the strengthening of US Dollar, the Board is optimistic that the Group will perform well for the next financial year," it said.

Shares of VS Industry fell four sen or 2.7% to RM1.47, bringing its market capitalisation to RM1.75 billion.

VS Industry FY earnings surge nearly 150%, upbeat on FY16 BUY
Author: Chang Wt | Publish date: Tue, 29 Sep 2015, 08:47 PM

KUALA LUMPUR: V.S. Industry Bhd, which saw its net profit surge 147.5% to RM132.74mil in the financial year ended July 31, 2015 (FY15) against RM53.63mil, is optimistic the group will perform well for the next financial year.

The electronics manufacturing services (EMS) player said on Tuesday the group’s operational environment remains strong in Malaysia.

“With continued strong support from the existing customers, new potential customers and the strengthening of US dollar, the board is optimistic that the group will perform well for the next financial year,” V.S Industry said in the notes accompanying its financial results.

Managing director Datuk Gan Sem Yam said: “Going forward, despite the ongoing economic climate, we intend to continue improving our performance by ably supporting our customers, becoming more efficient in production and further developing our research and development capabilities to hone our competitive edge.”

“We are confident that these strategies will continue to take our current financial year to greater heights,” Gan said.

For the FY15, the group recorded a revenue of RM1.93bil, an increase of RM221.8mil, or 12.9% compared to the preceding year. Its pre-tax profit was RM159.7mil, up 280.3% or RM117.7mil over the same period.

“The improved earnings for the current quarter was mainly attributable to better sales mix contributed by the Malaysian operations, and the improved earnings for the cumulative quarter was mainly due to higher revenue as well as better sales mix contributed by the Malaysian operations,” it said.

The company also recorded a RM24.44mil net foreign exchange gain compared with a loss of RM2.1mil in FY14.

In the fourth quarter ended July 31, V.S Industry posted a net profit of RM52.7mil compared with RM36.5mil a year ago. Its revenue, however, fell to RM506.8mil against RM534.4mil achieved previously.

VS Industry also declared fourth interim single-tier dividend of 1.2 sen per share, and final dividend of 1.2 sen per share subject to shareholders’ approval.

Together with the previous first, second and third interim (adjusted) dividends of 0.6 sen, 0.6 sen and 1.2 sen respectively, and assuming shareholders’ approval of the final dividend, the total dividend per share in respect of FY15 amounts to 4.8 sen compared with 2.34 sen a year ago.

The dividend payout of RM53.9mil represents 40.6% of FY2015 net profit.

MIDF revises ringgit forecast to 4.40-4.50 against US dollar
Published: 25 September 2015 11:30 AM

MIDF Research has revised its ringgit forecast to between 4.40 and 4.50 against the US dollar for end-2015, following Malaysia’s perceived “junk” status, coupled with US Federal Reserve (Fed) chair Janet Yellen’s expectation of a hike in US interest rates this year.

Bloomberg reported credit-default-swaps (CDS) traders having said Malaysia, along with five other countries, deserve to follow Brazil into “junk” status.

Citing data by Moody’s, the report said CDS investors view Malaysia to have a lower rating of Ba3, compared to its current rating of A3, due to the various headwinds the country is facing.

“There are a lot of negative sentiments about Malaysia in the market, from the dampening of oil price to the political scandal which is now being investigated by the US.
“The high number of uncertainty, combined with the slowdown in China’s economy, are making traders concerned about our sovereign debt and hence placing us along with other ‘junk’ status countries in the CDS market,” MIDF said in a note today.

These factors led traders to place Malaysia among the other junk-status countries in the CDS market.

However, the research house said Malaysia is far from experiencing a debt default or a moratorium, despite the small fiscal risk due to the low global oil prices.

“From the political perspective, regardless of all the political events happening recently, Malaysians are very unlikely to cause a massive riot which will affect the economy. Despite that, the comment from Moody’s would further fuel negative sentiments in the market and making our ringgit to fall further,” said the research house.

Meanwhile, Yellen indicated that the US central bank is on track to raise interest rates within 2015, but added that any economic surprises could change the Fed’s plans.

MIDF said a hike in rates in December is very likely, as the research house said most of the Fed members are expecting an increase before the year ends.

“However the risk remains, as China’s and the rest of emerging markets are still facing a slowdown which will affect the US economy, particularly if the slowdowns are worse than expected,” it said.

The research house is expecting a 25-basis point hike in the US interest rate in December.

“Combined with the latest comment by Yellen, we revise our ringgit forecast to 4.40-4.50 for the end of 2015,” said MIDF. – The Edge Markets, September 25, 2015.

Export Manufacturers will benefit when Ringgit is 17 year low
by aaronhee | Sep 24, 2015 | Investing | 0 comments
[The cost of developing and maintaining this site is sponsored by UberBalloons.com, Malaysia’s trusted balloon service provider with 17 years of experience bringing joy and happiness through balloons]
The chart below shows that our ringgit has fallen from Rm 3.20 to Rm 4.35 ( 35%) in one year.
All manufacturers which sell their products in US$ will benefit. The additional 35% profit requires no additional effort. They do not need additional raw materials, labour, capital, expenditure etc to make additional profit, literally profit for doing nothing.
The normal profit for a fairly good company is between 5-10% per year.
VS Industry, Latitude Tree and Lii Hen export about 90% of their products in US$. VS is the Malaysia largest computer Chip manufacturer. Latitude Tree and Lii Hen are the 2 largest Malaysia furniture manufacturers.
I have been recommending these 3 shares for a long time. Many smart readers have benefitted but there are only a few critics who obviously did not buy these shares. VS is my largest investment.
I am obliged to tell you that I am a substantial shareholder of the above mentioned 3 companies.
1
Lii Hen: Price shot up from Rm 2.50 to Rm 7.00 with in 12 months
2
Latitude Tree: Price shot up from Rm 1.00 to Rm 7.30 within 24 months.
3
VS Industry: Price shot up from Rm 1.50 to Rm 7.05 within 15 months (One share split to 5 shares)
4
Is VS still a good buy after it has gone above Rm 7.00 or Rm 1.40 after the share split?
5
The above chart is encouraging you to buy. My reasons are:
Its 3rd quarter eps was 39.80 sen while MPI’s was 39 sen. MPI’s 4th quarter eps was 18 sen as announced at end of Aug. making its annual eps of 57 sen.
VS will announce its 4th before end of Sept. as its financial year end in July. VS’s quarterly revenue is always about 30% more than MPI. VS exports about 90% of its products in US$ and in view of our Ringgit being 17 year low, we can expect VS to announce a higher profit than MPI.
The CEO of VS gave an interview which was reported by the Star newspaper recently and KLSC queried him. Here is his explanation as announced on Bursa:
We refer to the article “Exciting time for VS” published in The Star newspaper dated 5 September 2015. We wish to clarify as follows:-
We confirm that almost 90% of sales are transacted in US Dollar
We confirm that VS hopes to achieve 10% to 15% growth in terms of sales and net profit for the financial year ending 31 July 2016.
After reading this CEO’s statement, I strongly believe VS has very good profit growth prospect for this year and next year.
As you know KLCI has been dropping for more than 2 years and foreign institutional investors have been selling and running away. In spite of this fact, VS is still going up with huge daily transaction. I can imagine when the foreign fund managers return, they will rush to buy VS.

“We hope to be in a net-cash position in two to three years after paring down our borrowings, ” he says but does not disclose an exact plan for this to happen.

The company’s stock has been attracting a fair bit of attention lately, gaining more than 40% in the past three months, outperforming the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KL Composite Index, which is down over the same period.

Based on its current share price of RM6.13 and analysts’ estimates of about 22 sen in total dividends to be paid out for FY15, V.S. shareholders could get a dividend yield of close to 4% for FY15.

Up to the nine months of FY15, the company has paid out 12 sen per share in dividends to shareholders.

Notably, it has a policy of distributing at least 40% of its net profit as dividends.

At its current share price, V.S. is trading at a trailing 12 months price-earnings (PE) ratio of about 10 times.

Closest industry peer, SKP Resources Bhd is trading at a trailing PE of about 23 times.

Based on this, as well as the growth potential of the firm, Beh feels that V.S. is undervalued and should be accorded a PE of “at least 18 times”, in his own words.

In July, the company proposed a share split involving the subdivision of one existing RM1 ordinary share into five ordinary shares of 20 sen each “to enhance the marketability and trading liquidity of its shares.”

“Things are about to get more exciting for V.S., if today someone comes and makes an offer for the company, I will not sell ... it’s still my baby after all these years.”

Beh, who spends a substantial time in China these days indulging in his personal interest – hotels, of which he owns a couple – says that he already has a potential team in mind that he believes will be able to take over V.S. once he takes a backseat in the management of the company.

“V.S. is a low-profile company but we have a good story to tell.”

OEM firm in talks for new orders with 3 potential customers

V.S. Industry Bhd’s founder and group chairman, the gregarious Datuk Beh Kim Ling lets our a hearty laugh when complimented on his happy-go-lucky demeanour that is rather obvious the minute one meets him.

But don’t mistake that carefree attitude for a lack of business acumen.

The single largest shareholder in the company with a 22.5% stake, Beh started V.S., a Johor-based original equipment manufacturer (OEM) way back in 1979 and over the years, has helped build the company up to become the largest OEM in the country by sales, chalking up steady growth in its earnings.

More recently, the company’s net profit jumped almost seven-fold to RM26.52mil for the third quarter ended April 30, from RM3.82mil a year ago, supported by higher sales.

“At our company, our biggest asset is human capital,” the 57 year-old Beh tells StarBizWeek in a rare interview.

“We have extremely good team work which has made our research and development (R&D) side which is crucial to our business – very strong.”

However, preserving that human resource quality and getting fresh engineering talent will always be one of the main challenges for the group , Beh says.

Global manufacturing companies come to firms like V.S. which design, produce and test products for them to sell on to end-users.

In V.S.’ case, the company has been in the consumer electronic and electrical product manufacturing services industry for more than 30 years and manufactures products such as coffee machines and vacuum cleaners for customers mainly in the US and Europe. Every product type that it manufactures for its customers is exclusive, according to Beh.

Almost 90% of its sales are transacted in the greenback , which is a boon for the company in the current environment of a strong US dollar.

While the company’s sales used to be dependant on a single largest customer which made up over 80% of its sales , these days, the sales are more evenly spread out.

“If we can maintain the trend of having one customer contributing not more than 30% of our sales, that’s good enough in terms of cutting down on over dependency.

“Currently, our biggest customer, a famous coffee machine company in US, contributes about but not more than 35% to total sales.”

Collectively, V.S. has about 30 customers, with 10 being major ones.

For the financial year ending July 31, 2016 (FY16), Beh says V.S. is hoping for a 10% to 15% growth in terms of sales and net profit.

Up to the nine months to April 30, V.S. made a net profit of RM80mil on sales of RM1.43bil compared with a net profit of RM17.1mil on sales of RM1.18bil for the same period, a year earlier.

Growth should come from repeat orders of current customers as well as fresh orders, he says, as the company banks on the economies of US and Europe continuing to gain strength.

V.S.’ customers typically give estimates about a year ahead, with confirmation coming in approximately three months in advance.

New business

“At the moment , we have confirmed orders of three months worth about RM500mil on average and are discussing with three potential customers for new business,” Beh says.

At its factories located in Senai, Johor as well as in Indonesia and China, production is running at an average of 75%, which leaves 25% of capacity to be filled.

“Once the capacity is taken up, I will build up more, I still have about 15 acres of land in Senai ...,”

V.S.’ sales trend is “steady” and “sustainable”, Beh says partly due to the quality of its products manufactured. “It’s not easy for them (customers) to switch to another OEM after being with us for some time. “

Every year, the company spends about RM30mil to RM40mil to upgrade the machinery at its factories and has scaled down its workforce from over 20,000 some 10 years ago to about 12,000 now as automation made its way into its production process.

Beh points out that the life span of his products is about 1.5 years each, which means it introduces new product models for the same customers on a relatively regular basis.

Orders are contract-based and locked in via agreements for at least a three to five year period, adding on to the element of sustainability in its business.

Besides growing organically, the company is also looking for potential merger and acquisition opportunities.

“We are considering the option of buying overseas-based OEMs which make very specialised products but there’s nothing solid on the table yet.”

V.S. has cash and cash equivalents of RM198mil not taking into account the RM80mil recently raised via a private placement. However, borrowings are higher than the total cash it has, amounting to RM381mil.

V.S. Industry was testing the MYR5.60 level in its latest session after recently touching the 50-day MAV line. Traders may buy if this level is breached in the near term, with a target price of MYR6.06. In the meantime, the stock may trend sideways if the MYR5.60 level cannot be surpassed. Support may then be found at MYR5.10, where traders can exit upon a breach.

Weaker ringgit a windfall for VS Industry: BUY
Author: Chang Wt | Publish date: Fri, 28 Aug 2015, 12:11 PM

Company MD says 90% of its products are exported

SENAI: For VS Industry Bhd, one of the top 50 electronics manufacturing service providers in the world, the weakening of the ringgit against the greenback is a windfall as it gains on export activities.

Managing director Datuk Gan Sem Yam said that 90% of the company products were exported to the United States, Australia, Japan and European countries with business transactions done in US dollars.

“Our economic fundamentals are strong and Malaysia is fully prepared, so are our local exporters,” Gan told reporters after the company’s EGM.

At the EGM, shareholders approved the one-to-five share split that will increase the number of shares from 229.86 million shares of RM1 each to 1,148.30 million shares of RM0.20 each.

Shareholders will hold five common shares for each existing share held.

He said the weakening ringgit since the last-quarter of 2014, had made the country’s manufacturing sector more competitive, especially for the export-oriented companies.

“Export-oriented manufacturers like us are allowed by Bank Negara to buy our raw materials in the US dollar and we source half of our raw materials from overseas with the rest from domestic suppliers,” said Gan.

Strategy In A Falling Market - Koon Yew Yin
Author: Koon Yew Yin | Publish date: Thu, 27 Aug 2015, 10:47 AM

The above 5 year KLCI chart shows that our KLCI is more than 3 year low and in the last few months the KLCI drop most rapidly below the 1,600 level.

How did you react?

All ordinary investors are losing money because all the listed shares with the exception of a few really good shares are still falling. They are looking for an opportunity to exit.

Smart traders have cut loss early, holding cash and waiting for an opportunity to buy back some really good shares.

Clueless investors like Murali who are still holding hopeless type of shares, not willing to cut loss, are grumbling, groaning and mourning as if some has cut of his most precious part.

Super investors are still holding shares of companies which export their products in US$, for examples MPI, VS, Latitude, Lii Hen etc. These companies are enjoying additional profit for no extra effort because our Ringgit is 17 year low. The current exchange rate is Rm 4.20 to one USD. Just imagine our Ringgit has fallen more than 20% in the last one year. All their goods sold on credit in USD are worth a lot more which will benefit all their shareholders.

As I know, no market or share can continue to fall or rise for whatever reason. At the moment it is difficult to tell when the bleeding will end. The future looks bleak. But when the market rebounds, we must be prepared to take advantage of the opportunity to make back some money.

When the market starts to recover, we must first look for those really good stocks that had held steady or dropped the least during the index sell off. Investors do not simply sell good stocks unless it is urgent to meet margin call. Currently even serious investors would not buy them because they are not sure when the market will rebound.

Similarly, if people are selling a hopeless stock even when conditions are good, they are likely to continue selling regardless of if the index recovers or not.

What are really good stocks?

After a few decades of experience in the stock market and having read many books of gurus, like Warren Buffet, Peter Lynch, Benjamin Graham and others, I have simplified my formula for selecting good shares.

As you know, there are many stock selection criteria such NTA, cash flow, intrinsic value, healthy balance sheet etc. I consider the most important and powerful catalyst for moving share price is profit or EPS growth prospect. It must be able to make more profit this year than last year because if it announces a reduced profit at the end of the financial year, the share price will fall. But if announces an increasing profit the share price will go up.

The share I want to buy or own must have announced increasing profit in the last few quarters on Bursa Malaysia and it is selling below P/E 10.

I must tell you that I am a substantial shareholder of Latitude, Lii Hen and VS Industry and I am not asking you to buy to push up the prices. If you do, you are doing it at your own risk.
