Semiconductor Sales Higher in 4Q2016 and Will Continue to Ramp Up in 2017 and Beyond

As we know that JAG's operation is directly related to semiconductor sales and copper price. I bet 4QFY16 results that scheduled to be released at the end of this February will come in HIGHER than previous quarter and corresponding quarter last year.

This is based on 4Q2016 semiconductor sales of US$93 billion were 12.3% higher year-on-year and 5.4% more than the 3Q2016.

The SIA said that regionally, annual sales increased 9.2% in China, leading all regional markets, and in Japan (3.8%). All other regional markets – Asia Pacific/All Other (-1.7%), Europe (-4.5%), and the Americas (-4.7%) – saw decreased sales compared to 2015.

SIA president and CEO John Neuffer said following a slow start to the year, the global semiconductor market picked up steam mid-year and never looked back, reaching nearly $340 billion in sales in 2016, the industry’s highest-ever annual total.

Market growth was driven by macroeconomic factors, industry trends, and the ever-increasing amount of semiconductor technology in devices the world depends on for working, communicating, manufacturing, treating illness, and countless other applications.

The SIA expect modest growth to continue in 2017 and beyond.

Copper Price Remains on the Healthy Uptrend

YTD average copper price of USD2.67 is still bettering 12% 4Q2016 of average USD2.39, which it hints higher 1Q2017 net profit.

While the price is still hovering above USD2.60 even though having minor correction, JAG's net profit in 2017 should be better than FY16. So long the price can sustain above USD 2.53, the uptrend remains intact and profit margin still superior as compared to previous quater of average USD2.39

Technical wise, copper price is still on the uptrend line. We can expect the price will hit USD3.0 this year backed by economic recovery in China and higher demand for copper.

Conclusion, JAG is in better position to trade higher this month and onwards. A TP of 16sen will translate 28% potential gain in one month.
