WORLD OF BUZZ
SOCIAL STORIES“Next in-flight meal is on me once we recover” –Sir Tony Fernandes Promises to Maintain Low Fares Despite Weak CurrencyPublished 1 day ago October 25, 2023By Azri Azizan
Collage 44Source: TikTok | tonyfernandesairasia

Blessings come in many forms. You’re blessed if you have a shelter with a loving family in it and at work, consider yourself lucky if you have a superior who publicly recognises your hard work.

The CEO of AirAsia, Tony Fernandes recently surprised a flight of passengers soon after they landed with a special in-flight announcement – a gratitude message for all the passengers who have continuously supported the flight company throughout the years. He then expressed what he truly felt about the past 3 years when the pandemic struck, and after the world returned to its norm before Covid-19.

“It has been a hard 3 years, and providing many people with a chance to fly makes me really happy. It makes it all worthwhile.”

The passengers were not the only lucky ones who got to receive the words of gratitude from Tony. The cabin crew, who have been doing their best to serve the people after 3 years of hell and back were also recognised and praised in front of passengers by their CEO.

“It was tough for them. Their pay was cut. They didn’t have the chance to fly for 2 or 3 years. So please give them a round of applause.”

The passengers did not hesitate and they clapped as a token of appreciation for the cabin crew.

Tony admitted that 1 of the best parts about travelling on AirAsia is that he gets to meet guests and personally thank them. And here’s the best part. Tony had another surprise in store for the passengers.

“When we are fully recovered, the next in-flight meal is on me.”

Despite high oil prices and the weak currency, Tony promised passengers that AirAsia will do its very best to maintain low-fares.

You can watch and listen to his words in the clip below.

AirAsia Newsroom.
Year-to-date, the consolidated airlines have recovered 76% of passenger volume from the first nine months of 2019.

KUALA LUMPUR: Capital A Bhd’s consolidated airlines comprising AirAsia Malaysia, AirAsia Thailand, AirAsia Indonesia and AirAsia Philippines continued to post a strong load factor of 89% in the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2023 (3Q23).

The aviation and digital lifestyle group said it carried 14.7 million passengers on the back of 16.5 million seats capacity on 152 operating aircraft in 3Q23.

“Consistent high travel demand post-pandemic has resulted in solid year-on-year (y-o-y) growth with a three-percentage point improvement in load factor, achieving close to 50% growth in passengers carried, while seat capacity grew close to 45%,” it said in a statement yesterday.

Year-to-date, the consolidated airlines have recovered 76% of passenger volume from the first nine months of 2019, which surpassed the overall capacity recovery of 73% in the same period.

It said all airlines posted high load factors, primarily driven by the growth in international seats sold.

“AirAsia Philippines took the lead with a remarkable 368% y-o-y increase in international passengers carried, flying over 354,000 passengers.

“This is followed by AirAsia Thailand carrying 1.8 million international passengers, up by 164% y-o-y. AirAsia Malaysia and AirAsia Indonesia both showed about 100% y-o-y growth to 3.1 million and 1.1 million international passengers, respectively,” it said.

On its digital segment, Capital A said airasia Move, which was rebranded recently from airasia Superapp, achieved a new record of 15.4 million average monthly active users, up by 61% y-o-y.

“This has led to another new high of 8.3 million transactions, up by 65% y-o-y,” it said.

As for BigPay, it said carded users increased by 14% y-o-y to reach 1.5 million users, while gross transaction value has also shown encouraging progress, rising by 24% y-o-y with broad-based growth across all products.

On the logistics segment, Capital A said Teleport continued to deliver strong quarterly performance in its core operational metrics.

“For cargo segment, we delivered 57,309 tonnes, a 115% increase y-o-y, and this success is further underscored by a healthy belly utilisation rate of 15% (up from 12% y-o-y), an achievement made possible by the return of international flights, which significantly expanded usable belly capacity,” it said.

Meanwhile, the delivery segment continued to post impressive growth, delivering 7.4 million parcels during 3Q23, it said.

“(Year) to date, it has delivered 17.9 million parcels – already more than double the levels achieved in the 2022 financial year,” it added. — Bernama

AirAsia Newsroom.
Capital A Berhad, the parent of AirAsia, is planning to raise more than $1 billion in debt and equity, and will list some of its businesses through a blank-cheque company, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday.

Capital A CEO Tony Fernandes has agreed to a deal with Aetherium Acquisition, a special purpose acquisition company, and plans to list several businesses through it next year, the FT reported, citing two people familiar with the deal.

This includes a new business extending the AirAsia brand to companies hoping to start airline franchises in developing countries, the report said.

The group has been evaluating fundraising options for a planned U.S. listing after it was hit by pandemic travel restrictions in Asia, leading Bursa Malaysia Securities to classify it as a PN17 company, or financially distressed, last year.

The potential fundraising also includes a $150 million loan from Bangkok Bank this month, FT said.

Capital A and Aetherium Acquisition did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment.

Malaysian entrepreneur Tony Fernandes is planning to raise over US$1 billion in debt and equity for his Capital A conglomerate (formerly AirAsia). He is also preparing to list some of its businesses through a special purpose acquisition company (spac) or a blank-cheque company in New York, according to an article in the Financial Times.

Fernandes was said to have struck a deal with Nasdaq-listed spac Aetherium Acquisition. He is also said to list several businesses – including a new business extending the AirAsia brand – through Aetherium in 2024, according to the paper’s sources.

Capital A has been classified as a distressed company by the Malaysian government in 2021 although the company has asked Bursa Malaysia to lift its classification in July this year.

The deal with Aetherium is expected to be finalised in early 2024, according to the Financial Times’ source. The spac closed its US$115 million ($157.4 million) initial public offering (IPO) of 11.5 million units in January 2022.

“Capital A still has a lot of debt, which is concerning, but operationally things are going quite well. This year looks like it will be better than the year before Covid,” says Aletheia Capital analyst Nirgunan Tiruchelvam.

“US capital markets are generally much more tolerant of finances like this than markets in Asia,” he adds. “Fernandes has an extraordinary ability to energise his investor audience

KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 24): AirAsia X Bhd (AAX) achieved a passenger load factor of 80% for the third quarter of 2023 (3Q2023), up 7% year-on-year (y-o-y) while seat capacity surged over nine times, hitting 1.01 million seats flown.

The performance was attributed to a 10 times y-o-y increase in the number of passengers with over 807,000 passengers carried in 3Q2023 compared to nearly 80,500 passengers in the same period last year, the medium-haul low-cost carrier said in a statement on Tuesday.

“Available seats per kilometre (ASK) surged close to 12 times higher y-o-y at 4,412 million, bolstered by the increase in seat capacity and the continued recovery of the company’s network,” it added

Budget carrier AirAsia, a part of the Capital A Bhd group, is seeking a US$400 million (RM1.8 billion) loan, half of it from private credit funds, to refinance debt, according to people familiar with the matter.

Capital A is no stranger to private credit. An engineering and maintenance subsidiary Asia Digital Engineering in April secured a US$100 million investment from private-credit provider OCP Asia Ltd., according to a statement at the time.

Asia still accounts for a small percentage of the
US$1.5 trillion global private credit market(Whale Financing), but major players such as Blackstone Inc are targeting growth in the region.

With global airline capacity returning to levels seen before the pandemic and industry earnings rebounding, the aviation industry has become a target for private credit lenders.

The special offer, effective immediately, is applicable to passengers with confirmed flight bookings to and from Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi, Penang, Tawau, Kota Bharu, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Kota Kinabalu-Tawau, and Don Mueng-Bangkok and Suvarnabhumi-Bangkok from today until Nov 30, 2023.

"We understand the stress and disruption this situation has caused and hope that this 50 per cent discount will assist affected passengers in making new travel arrangements, making full use of our extensive flight network to all key destinations,” AirAsia Aviation Group Ltd group chief executive officer Bo Lingam said in a statement today.

In a statement earlier, MYAirline announced it had suspended its operations effective today until further notice due to significant financial pressures.

The low-cost airline said it had come to this "extremely painful decision” because of financial pressures that made it necessary to suspend operations pending the shareholder restructuring and recapitalisation of the airline. - Bernama

AirAsia ADE(MRO):
Where are the Market Opportunities?The Increasing Trend of Outsourcing MRO Services Allows Specialized Providers to Tap into a Growing Market;
1. The burgeoning trend of outsourcing MRO services presents a significant opportunity for specialized providers to enter and thrive in a growing market. Airlines increasingly opt to partner with third-party MRO providers due to the expertise, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness these providers offer. This trend allows MRO companies to extend their services to multiple airlines, broadening their customer base and revenue streams. Independent MRO providers with specialized capabilities can offer tailored solutions for different aircraft types, enhancing their competitiveness in the market. As the aviation industry continues to expand, the demand for reliable and efficient MRO services is set to rise, creating an environment ripe for providers to establish themselves and meet the evolving needs of airlines.

2. The Rise of E-Commerce has Boosted Air Cargo Demand, Creating Opportunities for MRO Providers
The surge in e-commerce has led to an increased demand for air cargo services, presenting opportunities for MRO providers. Air cargo operations require aircraft that are maintained at optimal levels of performance and reliability to ensure timely and secure transportation of goods. MRO providers can capitalize on this trend by offering specialized maintenance services for cargo aircraft and related systems. Efficient maintenance practices contribute to reduced downtime, increased operational efficiency, and enhanced safety, crucial factors in meeting the demands of the growing air cargo market. By catering to the specific needs of cargo operators, MRO providers can position themselves to benefit from the continuous expansion of e-commerce-driven air cargo services.
This is another big earnings growth prospects in CapitalA.

CapitalA (ADE) closest competitors are in Singapore, SIA ENG n ST Engineering.

Teleport and China’s SF Airlines to cross-share logistics network
October 2, 2023 Nur Suhaila Mohammed Kamal -

Partnership with SF Airlines strengthens connectivity between China and Southeast Asia, and opens new opportunities to the U.S. and European markets

SF Airlines gains access to Teleport’s logistics capabilities to support international expansion into Southeast Asia

Kuala Lumpur, 2 October 2023 – Teleport, the market leader for air logistics in Southeast Asia, and SF Airlines, China's largest air cargo carrier by fleet, have signed a bilateral interline partnership to leverage on each other's extensive air network to better serve their respective customers – Teleport brings to the table deep logistics access into Southeast Asia, and SF Airlines the largest express network within China and outbound into European and North American markets.

This partnership has already moved significant cargo volumes for customers of both parties on the combined network.

Teleport, the logistics venture seeded by Capital A Berhad is actively adding third-party airlines to its air logistics network to expand into key airports such as Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok from China, while extending network reach into new markets such as Europe and the United States.

Pete Chareonwongsak, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Teleport says, "This partnership is in service of our continued efforts to add valuable third-party airline partnerships to Teleport. We are looking forward to supporting SF Airlines to expand their cross-border product in Southeast Asia.”

“In turn, our partnership with SF Airlines, the largest cargo airline in China not only strengthens our regional connectivity within China but also extends our market reach into Europe and the Americas, connecting our network globally beyond Southeast Asia. This will help us better serve our customers needs, deepen our end-to-end capabilities, and ramp up our ability to scale our business to better serve the region.”

“This collaboration reflects our relentless commitment to revolutionise air logistics in Southeast Asia and beyond – to provide our customers with a faster, more affordable, and uncomplicated go-to choice to move things across Southeast Asia, and now globally.”

SF Airlines operates a formidable fleet of 84 freighters serving 90 global destinations, both present and past. Their international network includes destinations in Europe, the United States, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, among others.

Li Sheng, Chairman of SF Airlines, added, "We're delighted to partner with Teleport, a market leader in the Southeast Asia region. This partnership allows us to deepen our network access into Teleport’s wide network reach and frequency into Southeast Asia as well as key Asia Pacific markets. We look forward to this partnership in further strengthening our commitment to continuously expand and strengthen our air-logistics service capability"

Teleport is the current market leader by volume of cargo moved across Southeast Asia and boasts the largest air logistics network in the region, utilising the surplus belly space of 204 wide-and-narrow-body AirAsia passenger aircraft. Additionally, Teleport inducted the first of three Airbus A321 Freighter (A321F) aircraft in July, to further solidify its leadership position in the region.
This collaboration will be CapitalA (Teleport), unprecedented earnings growth prospects 🤔
