sapura is more than a precious gem. it's a national treasure. we used the discovery of our oil fields in the 70s & 80s to grow our local capability in offshore exploration and production. other countries like UK, when they discovered the north sea fields in the 60s and 70s squandered the opportunity to build local capability to do offshore exploration and production - they relied mostly on foreign companies. So apart from the revenue for the UK government (which went to subsidies and welfare programs), there was no homegrown UK company with local talent built to do offshore exploration and production.
