If Genting just wants to drive up it's own price by only buying the free floating shares, even cheaper ROFL.

Stock

You know what would be HILARIOUS? (and I'm glad genting is not doing it)

Genting copy Top Glove and does Share Buy Back. ROFL!!!

At below RM5, Genting can basically buy back the entire company ROFL... that would be pretty much genius for LKT, he and his wife can hold on to 100 shares each of genting, and have genting buy back and cancel every single other share in existance. And still have plenty of spare change.

Yeah, the current valuation for genting is absolute nonsense. ABSOLUTE nonsense.

@apprentice true indeed. Those warrants are pure speculation/trading play for sure.

I've got a mix of warrant and mother share. Warrant of course I will unload if price is good. Mother, the SMF and CFDs will also unload if price is good. Mother share, will keep for long term or sell for profit based on situation I guess.

... the fact that people here are all talking in terms of "price" shows that most of the people here are just speculator/traders who are looking to sell off their genting shares for a quick profit. ... not that there's anything wrong with that, of course.

The fundamental investors would be asking: "What do you think Genting's financials will be like in a year? What will be their revenue? Profits? book value?"
Those would be the ones who are actually going to hold their genting over the long term...

Haiz. Looks like the majority here are still sentiment driven traders... oh well...

My wild guess is genting deep quarterly loss is below RM4, small loss is below Rm5, breakeven 6, small profit 7, big profit 8. ... but that's a wild guess with absolutely no proper basis to it ROFL.

Genting in 1 year? ... it's looking pretty realistic that the whole world will be vaccinated within 1 year. America should be done by the middle of the year, then all their vaccines will just be sold overseas.
So... Genting should be back to making profits within this year. ... which means that it should be comfortably back above 6 I guess. ... depends how much punters want to spend though. I'm expecting a recession, but Genting is historically pretty recession proof. It probably won't be super high profits, but I'm expecting their quarterly profits to go back to 70-90% of pre pandemic, which could mean the price goes back above RM8... BUT, I don't know... personally I don't really gamble (weird right), so I don't know what genting toto magnum etc would all be like during a recession.

to be fair, it is true, upcoming weeks genting will be ghost town. Will be making losses.

HOWEVER... remember, 20b cash pile. Projected that Genting will at most be losing a few hundred million from this MCO... not small, but nowhere close to beyond their budget.

Keep in mind... at this level of lockdown, Genting would die off in like 2 years of lockdown... in the meantime, many many other businesses would die long before that. ... so, yeah Genting is not in trouble at all. Definitely painful, but no real problem.

Kudos to Malaysian government and pharmaniaga for the 14m doses incoming in March. That speeds up our vaccination timeline SIGNIFICANTLY. +1mil malaysians getting vaccinated every month is a huge boost to our timeline.
And I'm not just talking about genting here, that +1m a month is something any Malaysian should be really happy about.
Big boost to genting too of course, though!

MCO will most likely become 2+2+2+.... etc, which will kill a lot of small businesses and small eateries, bringing down KLCI, so let's be honest here, some bleeding is incoming.

HOWEVER... indeed, vaccinations are incoming soon, which means that the end is in sight. Previously it's like we got shot and we're bleeding in the middle of a raging battlefield. ... Currently, we're still bleeding, but the war has been declared over and there are medical personel on the battlefield and everything is gonna be ok soon.

@goldgent ... except that when genting went to 4.95, I didn't sell ANY, and now it's dropped back to this level. That's not "a few percent". ... haiz...
Not to mention my warrants... HAIZ!!!

Vaccinations won't translate into lower covid numbers for months yet. The febuary batch of vaccines is only enough for 500k front line health workers. So, for general population, nothing until Q2. And even then not that much.
Stricter SOPs (no interstate travel) will make Genting a ghost town.

All in all, we're all pretty confident Genting will recover... but the question is WHEN? ... oh I'm speaking from business fundamentals, in terms of earnings, I guess it will return to making a profit in 2nd half of the year, and it will be quite a while before it returns to pre-covid level of profits. ... of course, despite talks of vaccines going based on need not on money, I still think that the rich will get their jabs early, so Genting might return to profit sooner than expected...

Volume seems to have dried up for genting after lunch... buy and sell queues are 6 digit and voumes traded are in the 3-4 digit range. ... seems price is stuck around this level for today, unless some major players jump into the market.

I see Genting going down this week, because of interstate travel restrictions. ... but I could be wrong, maybe it is indeed already factored into the current pricing?

Stock

2021-01-11 13:50 | Report Abuse

because gloves are hype and trendy and there is definitely money to be made playing the trading game on gloves.

As for recovery stocks, to be honest, it LOOKS like the malaysian government has secured enough vaccine for everyone who wants to get vaccinated... EVENTUALLY.

The trouble is, the timelines. I would really feel happier if we were set to be 50% vaccinated by Q3, or something, but the trouble is it looks like a rather slow roll out. Which is worrying for warrant holders (me included) because it's not terribly great if cases only start to fall AFTER all the warrants expire...
Not to mention, that's not good for the country either.

My hope right now is that as more China vaccines get approval, muhyiddin orders more, and with a shorter delivery timeframe. And hopefully, yeah, we get covid under control ASAP. As someone noted, vaccines don't save lives. VACCINATIONS save lives.

Leaving aside the stock market, I really REALLY hope that malaysian governemnt can accelerate the vaccination timeline. Vaccinating 500k front liners in Q1 and another 800k people in Q2 is.... just too slow. However, those are just the pfizer vaccines, so hopefully the other vaccines will have faster delivery dates.

As for Genting, well, genting mother share is safe, but I'm heavy into the warrants, and those are a LOT more time sensitive, so having slow vaccination roll out will hurt my bank account quite a lot!

No, i was TOO aggressive lol...FAR too aggresive, beyond the bounds of common sense. That was the other reason I chickened out and closed out my CFDs at 4.40... because it was MUCH worse than liquid capital that I could be stuck with... I live off my investments, and so almost all my networth is in various forms of investment. I had over 50% of my networth in genting+genm, and another 30% in gent+genm warrants, a big chunk of it in property (partially financed), some cash for living expenses and emergencis.... and I had CFDs worth another 25% of my networth. Which as you can see adds up to over 100%, because those CFDs were over 3x leveraged. ... and watching the daily interest get added up to the "you owe us THIS much money!" section was NOT good for my emotional health ROFL!!! Talk about fear of getting "stuck"... the fear becomes very very real when every day that you are "stuck" will stick you with a nice juicy finance charge bill to be paid...
So, even though I was pretty sure that RM4.40 was too cheap, I chickened out, took my profits and paid off all those outstandings, and decided to live a less stressful life.

At the moment, I have more than 60% of my networth in genting. ... not capital, but networth. The amount fluctuates depending on the price of genting, as you can imagine., At RM4.90 I had a some spectacular figure locked up in genting, so I decided that, even though RM4.90 was also pretty undervalued, I chickened out and took money off the table. ... 60% networth is AFTER profit taking, and with the RM4.50 price. ... when it was 4.90, I didn't even want to calculate what the figure was.... eek...

For all you others out there... I would not recommend doing what I did lol!!! ... Even though I made money off it, in hindsight, it was very VERY unwise...

BTW, I had negotiated an ADDITIONAL form of financing by signing up for Share Margin Financing, but I promised my friends and family that I would only use that credit facility if Genting went below RM4. ... so ithank goodness, that facility is just sitting there untouched, and will likely just go untouched forever and go dormant.

The saddest thing about this genting foray is that I bought 500k C94 at 8.5c... and it kept dropping. And when it was 7-7.5c, I decided to buy another 1m, but genting mother had dropped below RM3 that day and c94 had not dropped QUITE enough, so I decided to queue at 7c since that was what c94 should have been at that level... ... ... buy queue didn't trigger, got none. ... the next day, was the pfizer announcement, and the rest is history...
I have NEVER and probably WILL NEVER regret trying to fish for lower price, as much as I regret that mistake... :(

Stock

2020-12-31 14:42 | Report Abuse

Also... to be honest, I chickened out, and abandoned my value investing, because the daily interest on those CFDs just stressed me out too badly lol... I bought a pretty big amount of genting CFDs under 4.10, and I sold them all below 4.40... and when it went up to 4.90 I was cursing away...

Stock

2020-12-31 14:06 | Report Abuse

@invisiblehand i'm already close to all in. Back when genting dropped from 4.55 to 4.03, I went more than all in, I was buying on debt (CFDs), lol. But I got stressed out because the daily interest rates are too high.

what do you define as all in anyway? Mortage your house, take bank loans? ... 100% of your networth? ... this "all in" nonsense doesn't exist, hardly anyone actually ever goes all in.

To me, putting in 30% of my networth on genting and genm warrants when it was below RM3 was already far more aggresive than most people would dream of doing lol.

Having gone in to that extent at RM3, why would I go allin at RM4.50?

There's this thing called position sizing... I wouldn't put more than 25% of my capital on something that is JUST undervalued or cheap, To put 50% of my capital on one counter, it would have to be a RIDICULOUSLY cheap bargain.

Stock

2020-12-31 12:37 | Report Abuse

I don't do momentum trading... I estimate the fair value of every single thing, and if it's cheap I buy, if it's expensive I sell. Simple.

i didn't go all in at 3.00 because I was fishing for slightly lower lol... I also didn't go all in because of position sizing, at that point I had over 30% of my networth in genting and genm warrants. ... which is already probably a bit ridiculously high. :P ... at that point most of the c91 that had been issued into the market was under my name. :P

it went to 4.55 then went back to 4.03, and I whacked quite a lot... then it went up to 4.90 and I was pondering whether to take some profit or not. Took profit off some warrants, kept the mother share.

Then when it went back to 4.30 the other day I was waiting for it to go below 4... but it seems like that won't happen. SADNESS.

@invisiblehand. Why the heck would I wait to buy above RM5 when I can get it at RM4.50 now? ... what you just said makes no sense.

If it had stayed at RM3, it would have been kicking out of KLCI30, and yes, then it would probably have dropped to RM2.50.
