It will be a win-win-win situation if someone (are you reading this Calvin?) can be the intermediary/introducer between MPCorp and SP Setia with regards to MP's land in Iskandar. SP Setia can do a JV with MPCorp. It could turn out to be something very interesting.

It was reported in the Star on Friday 20th Sep that SP Setia is looking for more land in the Iskandar area, excerpted below:-

SP Setia eyes more land in Iskandar

JOHOR BARU: SP Setia Bhd is on the lookout for more land in Iskandar Malaysia as part of its strategy to strengthen its position in the southern region.

Chief operating officer Datuk Voon Tin Yow said that while South Johor still had large parcels of development land available, the prices were now getting higher.

He said the average development land price in Iskandar now stood between RM15 and RM20 per sq ft, up from between RM5 and RM8 per sq ft six to seven years ago.

“The price of land in South Johor has appreciated over the years, but still remains competitive compared with land prices in the Klang Valley and Penang,” said Voon.

What criteria do you use for your screening? Woould be good if you could state it with each screening.
Keep up the good work! Much appreciated!

It looks like Hap Seng's continuous share buy back is not giving the positive effect on the share price it wanted. The market can see that previuosly it was buying 500,000 shares in the last session (ie in the last 10 minutes) on a daily basis. Now it has changed to buying around 700k to 800k shares after 4pm.

If HS could change its strategy and intervene throughout the day and also not restrict itself to the 700k to 800k a day, the buy-back could have abetter chance of achieving the desired effect. A good example of a properly executed buy back is YTL Corp just a few days ago for the second time.

The current price of RM1.63 is not too far off from RM1.59 at the beginning of this year and in this period it has bought back 51.5m shares so far. Not much to shout about really.

To attract attention, the share price must close with higher highs and higher lows over a few days in order to achieve a 'clean' uptrend, preferably with volume. This together with some good news like a good divi (eg shares instead of cancelling them) would be nice. Now you know what I would like for Xmas.

On the subject of milk, Fat Cat Tim Buddy and talk2pkc are right. Do you know that we human beings are the only species in the animal kingdom who still continue to drink milk after we are weaned off it (ie no longer babies), and also, we are the only species who drink the milk of another specie. Both sounds petty unnatural doesn't it. We are conditioned to thinking drinking milk is good for you. If you drink milk and have a lot of mucus, you will see the difference when you stop drinking it.

If you are still drinking milk, you must read:

Kian Joo's TP is 2.50. It is now 2.35 +15.

It's interesting to note that a few minutes ago, there was over 10,000 lots (1 million shares!!!) to sell at 1.78 against about 3,000 lots to buy. I wonder if this is a deliberate attempt to drive down the price in view of the call warrant CB expiring in 4 days time (similar to what happened with DRB not so long ago)?

As I mentioned, the vol increase for Hap Seng was exceptional.

Other counters that gap-up between stopping at 4.45 and re-opening at 4.50pm include Genting from 9.59 to 9.68,TDM from 4.31 to 4.55. Even Coastal went up from 1.92 to 2.00 with a volume of 2.8m (!) but nothing can beat Carlsberg (from 11.60 to 12.98) with 1.38 increase on 1.38m shares in the final 10 mins.

Now that Greece has decided to remain in the Euro, let us watch as the market trend upwards today from 1579.

Hap Seng closed at 1.83 +12s (7%) on a vol of 22.87m. Compared with a daily vol of half of a million to one million, the vol increase to say the least, is quite exceptional.

What really is interesting is in the last 10 mins of trading. At 4:50pm the queue was 7.2m to buy and 6.5m to sell. Having tracked Hap Seng closely for the past few mths, I have never seen buying at such a scale, let alone in the last 10 mins, and at a price level not seen in the last 14 mths.

The trade went thru for the 6.5m shares at 1.83, 9 bids higher from 1.74, the price of the last trade before 4.45pm - i repeat 9 bids (ie 9 sen) higher!!! This is serious buying. (I wonder if this is a passing trade between 2 parties, like what happened with Media on 7th and 8th June 2012, where over 20m shares on each day were transacted).

Trading continued with 773,800 shares given to the buyers, and an additional buying of 1,228,000 shares, giving a total of 2mil, all in the last 10 mins, at 1.83 the closing price.

I agree that the optimism in Europe and in particular UK (GBP140bn bank stimulus announced earlier today) may lend a hand to the price increase, but it can't fully explain the 7% price increase and more importantly, the increase in vol to almost 23m shares from a million or so.

Maybe we shall know next week. In the meatime, good luck to Greece and their voting on Sunday.

BTW, the company has bought another 300,000 shares today, at 1.83, in the last 10mins.

Yes, that's correct.

That is why I mentioned earlier the last cum-div date. To be entitled for the dividend, you must buy the stock before the ex-date, which is the last cum-div date.

The last cum-div date is the last day to buy the stock to be eligible for the dividend.

The company is continuing with its buy-back. Its mandate was renewed at the AGM. It has been buying 300k a day over the last 5 days, all at the closing price of the day.

Today's price movement is quite convincing. It opened at RM1.65 and closed at the high of 1.69, breaking the resistance of 1.65.

Its uptrend will not be impeded if it can continue to go up and break the 1-year high of 1.72.

As mentioned in my earlier posting, another small position is in the offering, knowing the continued support of the share price by the buy-back.

Perhaps, buy at 1.70 and above for tomorrow.

The Company is quite diversified in its busness - it is involved in property, plantations, automotive, credit financing, the fertiliser business and quarrying and building materials.

The counter is 73.73% owned by the Lau family, up from 69.35% in Oct 2011.

With the increase in the stake in the Co and the continuing accumulation of shares via buy-back by the Co, one would expect the forthcoming quaterly results would indeed be good.

The counter is trading in a price channel between 1.60 and 1.70.

Since 19 March 2012 when the Co announced the sale of land and making a profit of RM38.4m to be booked in 1Q12, the Co went on an aggressive buy-back of its own shares, Since then, it had bought 12.8m shares, making a total of 19.1m shares to date.

Very often, you can see the buying in the last 10mins of afternoon session, in fact in the last a few seconds before 4.50pm.

Today,(24 May, Thurs) it was 350,000 shares was bought at 1.65 pushing the price up by 1 bid; yesterday it was done 100,000 at 1.64 and 330,000 at 1.65, pushing the price up by 2 bids. On 21 May (Mon) the Co bought 300,000 at 1.63, the closing price of the day. There are more of such buying, too many to list.

In addition, its 100% subsidiary, Hap Seng Insurance bought 50m Hap Seng Consol shares from its Hong Kong sister Co on 17 May 2012.

With the Co buy back, it mght be worth while to take a small position. At least you know the price is supported.
