（布城13日讯）尽管东海岸铁路计划（ECRL）因冠病疫情而受到影响，但政府强调这项工程会继续进行，不能就此停顿，因一项工程一般上能带动约140个支援性行业，若停顿下来唯恐会导致更多人失业。

交通部长拿督斯里魏家祥博士日前接受中文媒体联访时指出，东铁涉及一些财务配套，而中国会在6年后才向大马收款，因此大马要赶紧完成工程。

根据早前报道，中国进出口银行为大马政府提供550亿令吉融资，作为兴建东铁用途。

“这工程会照走……你不能把它停下来，若停下来却钻了隧道，就要把它填回去，否则会泥崩。

“若工程停顿将会有更多人失业，一旦停下来也将影响其他行业，所以大型的计划仍会照走，因为它已在预算之内。”

他受询及东铁及双线火车工程会否因疫情而被拖延时，这么回应。
