It would cost more for airlines to buy Airbus aircraft in the future since the European plane maker has raised its average list price by 3.6%. Its announcement comes at a time when its United States rival, Boeing, is battling to investigate battery-related problems for its much-heralded B787 Dreamliner.

About 50 Dreamliners have been grounded indefinitely by airlines across the globe as Boeing investigates the problem.

The two local airlines AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines (MAS) have no Dreamliner in their fleet, although at one point, MAS was exploring the aircraft as a replacement for its B777 aircraft.

As for AirAsia, its fleet consists of only Airbus aircraft. Recently, it ordered 100 A320s. This comes out of a total of 475 aircraft ordered.

However, Malindo Air, which is set to take to the skies in March this year, would take delivery of a few Dreamliner aircraft, probably towards the end of the year, as part of the order made by its sister airline, Lion Air.

Lion Air has ordered several Dreamliner aircraft for its operations and will transfer some to Malindo for its medium-haul operations.
