The resumption in air travel bolstered by airline capacity increase and lowering air fares are auguring well for the casino operators’ recoveries. The relaxation of Covid restrictions in China are also reigniting hopes that border reopening could be imminent which would be a great re-rating catalyst for the casino operators especially RWG and RWS due to their proximities to China. Under the current market volatility, NFO business should remain resilient. Maintain OVERWEIGHT rating on the sector with top picks of GenM and SPToto.

China – the final missing puzzle piece. Recent relaxations of China’s Covid restrictions reignite hopes that the nation is pacing closer to its borders reopening. Chinese visitors are a key client segment to the gaming industry. After more than three years of lockdown, there is a sizeable pent-up traveling and gaming demands waiting to be unleashed. We anticipate that once China’s borders reopen, this will greatly benefit RWS and RWG which are in proximities to the country.

Recovery in air travel continues. In 3Q22, we see how the recovery in air travel benefitted RWS with its net profit up +2.1x QoQ and +1.2x YoY. Bucking Singapore’s improving tourist arrival trend (see Figure #1 and Figure #2) coupled with improving capacity in RWS due to increase in hiring, GenS should continue to see an upward earnings trajectory. Similarly, Las Vegas is also registering improving tourist arrivals and hotel occupancy rate (see Figure #3 and #4). Despite inflationary pressures and recessionary woes, Las Vegas Strip, RWNYC and RWC are registering GGR at above pre-pandemic level (see Figure #5-#7) likely due to the strong pent-up traveling demand which outweighed these concerns. We see further upside to recovery in air travel due to (i) increase in airline capacity; (ii) lowering air fares as jet fuel price eases; and (iii) further relaxation of border restrictions.

NFO – resilient business. We expect the recent announcement on the reduction of special draws for NFOs to have minimal impact on earnings due to (i) special draws typically have lower sales compared to normal draws due to its non-routine nature; and (ii) a portion of special draw sales cannibalizes the sales from normal draws, which have a higher margin resulting a net negative impact to earnings. Despite an increasing risk of an economic slowdown, the NFO segment should remain resilient. Historically, the NFOs saw minimal impact to sales volume during the past recessions (AFC in 1998 and GFC in 2008).

We maintain OVERWEIGHT rating on the sector premised on (i) the gradual recovery in international air travel auguring well for the turnaround of the casino operators; (ii) the increasing likelihood of a China border reopening benefitting RWS and RWG; and (iii) the stable and resilient earnings from NFOs. We now tactically prefer GenM (BUY, TP: RM3.44) over GenT (BUY, TP: RM6.45) due to the latter’s exposure to commodities (plantation and O&G) which are susceptible to an economic slowdown risk. On the contrary, GenM which has a more domestically oriented business should fare better as domestic demand is expected to remain firm in FY23 (BNM 2023 GDP projection growth: +4-5%). In addition, under the new administration, the domestic tourism segment may benefit as the government capitalizes on the sector as a lever to support the domestic currency and economy. We also like SPToto (BUY, TP: RM2.27) as the stock offers a good dividend yield play with projected FY23 yield of >8%. This is anchored by the stable earnings from its NFO business. Its jackpot games which gained popularity thanks to the record-run previously also allows it to gain market share.

https://www.thestar.com.my/business/business-news/2022/12/14/global-semiconductor-equipment-sales-to-hit-record-us1085bil-this-year

PETALING JAYA: Global sales of total semiconductor manufacturing equipment by original equipment manufacturers are forecast to reach a new high of US$108.5bil in 2022, according to US-based Semiconductor Equipment Manufacturers Industry (SEMI).

The forecast is 5.9% higher than the previous industry record of US$102.5bil in 2021.

SEMI said the record high caps three consecutive years of record revenue.

The global total semiconductor manufacturing equipment market is expected to contract to US$91.2bil next year before rebounding in 2024 driven by both the front-end and back-end segments.

“Record fab constructions have driven total semiconductor manufacturing equipment sales to cross the US$100bil mark for a second straight year,” SEMI president and CEO Ajit Manocha said in a statement.

“Emerging applications in multiple markets have set expectations for significant semiconductor industry growth this decade, which will necessitate further investments to expand production capacity.” SEMI said the wafer fab equipment segment, which includes wafer processing, fab facilities, and mask/reticle equipment, is projected to expand 8.3% to a new industry record of US$94.8bil in 2022, followed by a 16.8% contraction to US$78.8bil in 2023 billion before rebounding 17.2% to US$92.4bil in 2024.

Singapore lift for Genting
PETALING JAYA: Amid cautious market sentiment over fears of a global recession, shares of Genting Bhd, and its 49.5%-owned Genting Malaysia Bhd have been holding up fairly well as investors bet on an “meaningful earnings recovery” with the easing of preventive restrictions across the gaming group’s key markets.

UOB Kay Hian (UOBKH) Research said it expects the Genting Group to elevate its earnings recovery momentum in the third quarter of financial year 2022 (3Q22), leveraging on continuously strong local patronage, better international visitations and full restoration of operating capacity.

“Furthermore, Genting Malaysia’s Resorts World Genting (RWG) is also primed to benefit from the ramping up of its hotel capacity to over 7,600 rooms (2Q22: 6,000 rooms) and resilient patronage during several holidays in 3Q22.
Meanwhile, Genting’s earnings will also be lifted by stronger performance from Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) which will benefit from Singapore’s pent-up tourism demand, higher hotel occupancy and average room rates,” the research firm said in a gaming sector report.

Last week, Genting Singapore Ltd, which is 52.63%-owned by Genting, saw its net profit double sequentially to S$132.3mil (RM44.2mil) for the 3Q22 ended September.

Revenue, meanwhile, surged 49% from better contributions of its affluent and premium customers. At 87% of pre-pandemic levels, analysts said this was Genting Singapore’s best quarterly revenue since the Covid-19 outbreak in 2020.

Genting and Genting Malaysia are expected to release their 3Q22 results later this month.

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 14): RHB Retail Research said JF Technology Bhd is eyeing a bullish reversal as it was poised for a breakout above the 66 sen level last Friday, after bouncing off the 21-day average line and hitting that spot, on higher trading volume.

In a trading stocks note today, the research house said that if a breakout above that level happens – forming a “higher high” bullish structure above the average line, it expects the bulls to push the stock towards 75.5 sen or Sept 13’s high, followed by Aug 15’s high of 82 sen.

“Conversely, the bullish momentum may be reversed if it drops below the strong support of 61.5 sen, forming a “lower low” bearish structure below the average line,” it said.

https://www.nst.com.my/business/2022/11/849369/solid-q4-genting-malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Genting Malaysia Bhd is expected to post a solid fourth quarter (Q4), given the year-end seasonality, Kenanga Research said.

This also follows the strong set of Genting Singapore's nine-month FY22 results where core profit jumped 75 per cent quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) to SG$241 million on higher revenue as tourists returned.
This was also backed by 49 per cent QoQ and 107 per cent year-on-year (YoY) hikes in Q3 FY22 revenue with gaming revenue led by the more affluent and premium customers that stayed slightly longer.

"We remain optimistic that the two-year lacklustre earnings streak at Genting Singapore is likely ending with earnings recovery from Q2 FY22 as the reopening of international borders from April 1 slowly brings back visitorship.

"And, this would apply to Genting Malaysia as well. This should eventually benefit the parent company Genting Bhd as well," it said.

Kenanga Research has raised Genting Malaysia's FY22 and FY23 earnings forecasts by 21 per cent and 19 per cent to reflect the strong Genting Singapore's Q3 FY22 earnings.

Singapore registered a 91 per cent jump in tourist arrivals of 2.04 million in Q3 2022 from 1.07 million in Q2 2022 a contrast to only 246,000 during the pre-reopening of international border from April 1, in Q1 2022.
Kenanga Research said this made up 72 per cent of the consensus' FY22 forecast.

"We deem the result is above expectation given that Q4 FY22 is seasonally a strong quarter on year-end holiday season and result usually is stronger than that of Q3," it said.

Genting Singapore's 3Q earnings and revenue double

Genting Singapore, which operates the Resorts World Sentosa integrated resorts, has reported a significant improvement in its results for 3QFY2022 ended Sept 30.

For the period, earnings reached $135.8 million, versus $60.7 million in the year-earlier; revenue in the same quarter was $519.7 million, more than double $251.5 million in 3QFY201.

"The overall improvement in RWS’ operating performance reflects the ongoing recovery of regional travel markets, but such recovery has yet to return to the pre-pandemic levels. The rebound in gaming revenue was led by more affluent and premium customers that are staying slightly longer," says Genting Singapore.

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 3): Pentamaster Corp Bhd’s third quarter net profit rose 5.6% from a year earlier, helped by improved revenue contribution from its automated test equipment (ATE) and factory automation solutions (FAS) segments.
The group said net profit for the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2022 (3QFY2022) rose to RM20.07 million or 2.82 sen per share, from RM19.01 million or 2.67 sen per share.
Revenue in the ATE segment jumped by RM27.3 million to RM121 million from RM93.8 million, while revenue from the FAS segment registered a 14.7% increase to RM54.7 million from RM47.7 million.

Pentamaster said it is optimistic about achieving another record year of business growth in FY2022 after recording a double-digit revenue growth for the nine-month period.

It said all other industry segments of the group witnessed encouraging growth during the period, and that contributed positively to both the ATE and FAS segments, with the exception of the group’s electrooptical segment.
