@ccheemd, missed one point. FDA skipped animal testing prior To Vaccine approval. This means, while we have a vaccine that saves human, it harms animals, and may lead to deadlier mutated virus... Lets hope this dont happen..

These whole pendemic episodes remind me so much of the prologue in the movie of I am Legend...

On JPmorgan, I think someone cocked-up, and didn't buyout C63 SW enough before expiry therefore the lousy article to condemn TG.

Checked MAS and AA websites. For the same booking dates and destination, you get to buy flights with MAS but not AA. What does that tell you ?...

i. Integrity? - Enough of customer complain on refunds...and
ii. No planes - Because of renegotiated leasing contract. I did see a remark in the Quarterly result that AA is looking at leasing by demand and/or per use. So long Covid stays and no flights out, no cash burn for AA. That's my take. Will see how that impact upcoming Quarterly result.

With the recent news about Hotel bookings in Langkawi locked 1000 reservation in 1hr, after RCMO announcement, shows how much the local are eager to travel and naturally how travel demand will look like hereon. It's definitely a sign of recovery.

To AA, domestic flights has always been its cash cow because it allows many flight churns in 1 day, the more the better. That's why you can get cheap flight tickets despite in low season. Can't say the same for international flights, where frequency can at most be 1 or 2 in a day plus other miscellaneous expenses ie; overnight parking, crew hotel stay...etc, etc, will incur hence making hard to net good profit (not no profit).

For SIA and Cathay, it's a different story. These airlines do not ply domestic routes, because there is none for them. Maybe for Cathay via DragonAir. So for these big brands, big $$ bailout is expected and the longer COVID19 lingers, the bleeding gets worse.

I remain positive on AA outlook, though recovery will be slow, but it'll pull through.

It is clear as daylight that things are getting better for AA but there somehow are observers see negative of this counter.

AA is not manage by people who are in to make money and run... but to create a legacy we all can be proud off.

i say, if you are in LT, there is no doubt things will improve, but ST, lets just say, you would be busy posting arguments day in day out here.

Does anyone know what does crack hedging means?

An articlr from MY Reserve - Mayne AA's oil exposure to hedging is not too bad afterall.

https://themalaysianreserve.com/2020/03/12/low-load-factor-cash-to-hedge-weigh-on-airasia-and-airasia-x/

"Adam said AirAsia and AAX have started to implement 7% to 39% crack hedges from 1Q20 to 4Q20 (averaging around 25%), ranging from US$8 to US$12 per barrel. Usual crack spreads range from US$13 to US$15 per barrel."

It is hard to comeby a Malaysian company being generous and have high regards on staff walfare. Stark contrast to Malindo and MAS, with MAS being the worst - where mgmt takes 10% cut and staffs asked to go for unpaid leave. I guess at MAS, everybody is just looking after their own backside...

Oil hedging at $60/barrel - i thought it means, AA buys fuel price at max price of $60..so anything lower, it's a bonus. How is this detrimental puzzles me. Maybe i am missing a point here.

Also, do remember, AA has regional local operations unlike MAS. Bulk of $$ are short trips due to quick turn-around on trips. With Covid19 issue, AA board had mentioned they are diverting focus to local travel... like it or not, air travel will never cease, especially local routes.

AAX has never been profitable and has most times been in Red. Another red for the next few quarters is nothing new.

So, putting all above together, the drop in stock price is just a knee-jerk market reaction and will recover. Granted profitability may have some impact, but becoming PN19 - is far from it. So lets not read too much into technical analysis as current economic climate is not a seasonal trend, more a kurtosis. My 2 cents...

AirAsia X will ask lessors for lease reductions across its entire fleet as the coronavirus crisis puts a strain on its business.

The Malaysian low-cost long-haul carrier has targeted a 30% lease reduction and plans to renegotiate maintenance reserves.

It is also seeking the early return of five leased aircraft to save costs, according to an investor presentation released alongside the airline’s 2019 financial results.

Cirium reported earlier this month that AirAsia X approached lessors for lease rental deferrals, though it declined to confirm then.

In addition to renegotiating lease rentals, the LCC says it will defer delivery of its new generation Airbus A330-900neos and intends to sell two A330-300s for gross cash proceeds of up to $100 million. It adds that it has short-term wet lease arrangements in the pipeline.

“The Covid-19 outbreak has impacted AirAsia X particularly as we are one of the largest foreign airlines operating into China, a market which represents 30% of our capacity,” says chief executive, Benyamin Ismail.

He adds that the airline is considering using 236-seater A321s for medium-haul thin routes as this would “better match demand than the 377-seater A330”. The A330s will continue to serve routes longer than six hours.

“Despite these very challenging circumstances we wish to provide assurance that efforts are in place to counter the impact of the current situation.”

The article "Those emails between Airasia executives and Airbus" is a butt joke on Airbus and SOF. Nothing in the article mentioned about personal gains attained nor even thread by the executives that could amount to a bribery charge.

Read the entire chronology, what the executive did was just hard nego... but those stupid Sales People in Airbus, so desperate for sales construed it as bribery solicitation. They are just so scared to say a 'no'!! Who would - coz doing so, one will be walking away from a very very large paycheck. You dont get that many airlines come knocking to buy planes let alone in hundreds!

All i can see was a bunch of cook up stories by Airbus officers - trying to please Tony and taking things off tangent for sake of making that commission.

SFO another fool, took the whole story from Airbus as gospel truth and put charges on people without checking facts.. If AA wins this cade, better sue those SFO idiots till tomorrow comes - My opinion - dont think there is a case on Tony and K, unless there is more supporting email other than those included in the article.

I think the missing point here is what did Airbus sponsored? Like in any F1 races, where you see big brands on the car, does it mean these companies are also corrupted?

Seemed there is bad faith to put AA into a bad light.

I am keeping the outlook that AA stock will stay at this price if not higher at Ex-date. EPF has been heavily buying into this stock and share buyback will keep this stock price in check. Tony is smart too, and knows there'll be heavy selldown after ex-date, hence these contingency planning... Plus, with next qtr result to be announced 1mth after ex-date. I think this is not a coincidence...

I am not an analyst but if you put bits and pieces together, I like how the big picture unfold. My 2 sen take.

Maybe another to see it is to average down the 7.7% shareholding transferred from TH to Urusharta bought at IPO price of $4.5. By doing this, it's takes shorter time to recover the initial investment. Either way, seemed there is upside potential for this counter. My 2 cents...

Well, lets give credit to whom it's due. AA may be Dr.M's brainchild but if there is no capable captain to navigate the business, outcome would be no different to MAS and other GLC helmed by supposed professionals.

Tony played his part too and we should credit him for his dedication seeing through AA's success. The true beneficiary of his success are US - where we enjoy affordable transportation we never had before...

In short, it takes 2 to clap, lest be grateful we have Tony and AA today.

I am not sure if i am reading it correctly, but according to Asia Nekkie news, 10% buyback equals 278.3 million @ $364.6, that adds up to about $1.31 (364.6/278.3) per share. I think that's not too bad unlike some one arbitrary guess it at $1.

http://asia.nikkei.com/Business/AC/Secures-shareholders-nod-to-buy-back-10-of-equity-capital

Take it from a positive light, no business wants a bad publicity, so does TF. If he think AA is a loosing battle, then why bother with share buy-back move in the first place. Could have just keep the money in his own account and declare missing or loss - like the company next door....

So, i still have faith in this counter, it's just riding on a bad patch due to weak currency. I would think 2016 will be a better time for AA, as i hope they renew their fuel-hedge to a lower price.
