Thanks for this report but not convincing. Although dividends are appreciated by shareholders, it is unlikely to push share price so high. I believe earnings increase has a much bigger impact.
I hope HR Owen can show some good results.

I'm ok with 5.5 sen div.
In all fairness, TVT has a tough time lobbying for a fair deal with the powers that be in the face of GST i.e. how gaming duties & taxes should appropriately be reduced, dealing with the Philippine as well as the Vietnamese counterparts.
End of the day, I hope it would be a fair win-win deal for all parties.

I understand that when PAS ruled Kedah, the outlets were allowed to continue. Hence unlikely Selangor outlets will be closed. However Kelantan is a different kettle of fish - there's no outlet hence the bettors only outlet was the illegal ones.
Of course the government lost the tax revenue (which is substantial). Good Eg. of a lose-lose arrangement.

My take - Sports Toto is a very resilent business since the bets are small. It's recession proof.
The biggest threat in my opinion is if the Finance Ministry does not renew its numbers forecasting licence. Hopefully the new crop of leaders like Robin Tan will be able to play the "game" with the powers that be.
If the licence is not renewed, then it would be close to it's NTA which is approximately 42 cents. The other big threat is if the powers that be, get greedy & want a bigger slice of the earnings - for nothing.

I don't think the Islamic funds ever invested in Btoto hence no issue of selling non-syariah compliant.
CIMB's research in June 2014 maintained target price of 4.57! They expect dividends to move back to to a 29 - 30 sen / share i.e. mouth-watering 7.8% yield at today's close of 3.74. Read on but don't your hopes up too high. Easier to believe that Harry Porter exists.

This stock price sky-rocketed yesterday 24 Jul. Anybody knows why?

These 2 people seems to be within the corridors of power. If they are right, perhaps a lot of maneuvering & palm greasing taking place.
Anyway personally I'm not interested in casino business. That business is too much sin for my soul though it may be good for share price.

Time has stood still since 18 June 14 for B Toto. No announcements. Is it no news is good news?

I see the word "decline" a lot.
Price will go up because people like dividends but then it would go down because the performance is bad compared to last year.

Last year 18 Jun, they announced 4th qtr results - profit fell RM16m & a pathetic dividend of 4 cents. This year 18 Jun, Jupiter will change house from Gemini to Cancer. What will be the impact? Another reduced profit & poor dividend? Management is v quiet. Whatever it may be, I'll make it to the AGM, get my umbrella door gift & some free food to raise my yield!

Tops 5 sen dividend. They cannot afford to give more due to too many issued shares.

As announced in verbatim "Third interim dividend via a share dividend distribution of approximately 30.68 million Treasury Shares on the basis of one(1)Treasury Share for every Forty Three (43) ordinary shares held, fractions of Treasury Shares to be disregarded."
It means for e.g. if you hold 4700 shares, 1/43rd of your holding results in 109.30 shares. You will get 109 shares. 0.3 i.e. fraction will be disregarded - burn-lah

There could be some truth to the rumours. If there's potentially good news in the pipeline, what would you decide as the major shareholder?
Would you declare dividends or further enrich yourself (& other sh.holders) with bonus issue - the only losers being those who sold out?

My guess on the delisting is that the major shh ie Toto Philippines have big plans to make big $$. Without listing status, you need not be excessively transparent & obey every cumbersome and costly governance rules.
As one of our bloggers have pointed out that if they feel that the UK economy will pick up, then luxury car sale can earn large profits. I only hope that they know what they are doing & don't suck cash from Sports Toto. If they feel that their HRO venture is good, they should borrow on their own merit ie. from banks.

If it's any comfort, Cardiff beat Soton 1-0. Hopefully it will translate into increase Btoto share price.

kkng0819kk - In my first foray - I picked up Pubic B during 1993 superbull at RM5. Then market crashed & I sold at RM4+ at a loss. I think I'm the only person in the world who have lost money on Public B's shares.
My second foray is rewarding.

Tiptop168, if TVT sells, he has to disclose within 1 day so we will all know. I made decent money not a lot with B toto in my first foray. Now in my 2nd, holding at a slight loss but it's ok (barring unforseen circumstances).
BTW Public Bank shares soaring today. Went to the AGM - they said that together with 52 cts dividend plus capital gain, the return for 2013 = 21%!!. We (me included) v grateful to TSTeh - sang him h.b/day song & wished him a good life. He's a true patriot. Does not make speeches & false promises (like politicians) but is honest and he delivers. Govt coffers increase because of tax, shareholders are happy - can finance their children's education etc. Only issue is that I did not pick up enough.

The usual no cum-div lift is absent. It's clear that shareholders psychologically prefer cash dividends even though, technically it could be "manufactured" by selling their bonus entitlement.

Agreed with KinSoon Kok's observation. To raise share price in this stable cash flow Co, it has to engage in aggressive share buy-backs and then cancel them.
2014-03-25 10:57 | Report Abuse
One thing's certain - none of the substantial shareholders nor senior management is selling (or buying) or else it would have been disclosed. Also Magnum's share price is also languishing.

Neohts - with more shares locked up under Treasury, they could over time pay more dividends per share

I wish that B.Toto can be like Batu Kawan. They buy-back shares slowly but surely. They never sell them back or give out as dividends. To date 5.93% has been bought back.
At low interest rate, that's the best thing to do. It has after all issued bonds (despite being profitable)
If treasury shares in B.Toto can reach close to 10%, then we will have a lot of dividends (& capital gains) to enjoy.
2014-03-19 16:07 | Report Abuse
Anybody know how dividend of 9.5 cents is arrived at?
2014-03-18 23:58 | Report Abuse
jpleow, although % of share bought back is small, it involved a huge cash outlay - a big drain on cash hence difficult to pay dividends. Today BToto buy some more shares, restarting their campaign - tiresome indeed.
KinSoon Kok - agreed on the growth perspective since the cash flows are rather fixed. However cash flow & growth can increase with inflation - do the math if cost of tickets and winning prices are raised by 10%, profit will also increase by 10%. Saw HROwen financials - it's barely making money.
Agreed with Leesk, now all of a sudden we are exposed to the luxury car market which we did not bargain for. Perhaps next would be construction business?? Money could have been pumped up from Berjaya Phi and then to B.toto shareholders through dividends.

More shares in the hands of shareholders instead of treasury means more mouths to feed hence less dividend per share.
Going forward, expect less dividend per share, lower EPS hence lower market price.
2014-03-18 12:50 | Report Abuse
Share dividend = Left pocket to the right. After all its efforts in accumulating treasury shares which has positive impact for EPS, it distributes - a waste in my opinion. Looks like statusquo.
Hence share price hardly budged. If B.Toto had declared dividend say 8cts, the share price would have certainly increased
2014-03-17 10:12 | Report Abuse
I hope after the buying, they will still have enough for cash dividends. Do you think they can declare 8 cents?

I've picked up shares - all above 3.90. Too afraid to pick up more because market is overall up but toto going south & VT is staying on the side lines.

One only looks at NTA with the intention to liquidate assets. B Toto's valuation should be based on future earnings & cash flows.
Share price under pressure I believe due to impact of GST. Some uncertainties as whether B. Toto would be exempted or if required to pay then how it's calculated.

Bursa announcement indicates a lot of share buyback up to Mar 08 and then it stopped. At that time, BToto shares hovered around 4.80 - 5.10. In Jul 09, there was a massive share distribution of 1/14. Buybacks resumed in Dec 09 i.e. 1.75 yrs later.
Share price tanked after that. My sincere hope is that BToto cancels the 30.6 m shares bought back. It's good for EPS, Div yield and share price.

One should expect increase in profits the CNY season i.e. 31 Jan & some spillover to 30 Apr quarters. As far as dividend payment, I'm not certain as to whether they can be generous since a lot has been spent on share buybacks.
