Ringgit edges higher as US dollar index declines

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened slightly higher against the US dollar, bolstered by a weaker US Dollar Index (DXY) after the release of US economic data, an analyst said.

At 8 am, the ringgit traded at 4.5080/5145 against the greenback, compared with Monday's close of 4.5090/5135.

The analyst attributed the movement to final data for the US Services Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI), which came in at 56.8 for December 2024—below both the forecasted 58.5 and November's reading of 58.5.
