KOTA KINABALU: Sabah opposition lawmakers denied that they had received a constituency allocation from the state government.

Parti Warisan chief Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said this was despite an announcement that the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government has been giving allocations to opposition.

"That is not true. We did not get any allocation, probably that money is being channelled to those (opposition) areas.

"We do not know whether it went to who , whether it is the district office or the party's representatives," said the opposition chief in a press conference at Sabah Assembly Legislative Building here.

During the state assembly sitting, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor had said the state government had fairly distributed the allotted special annual allocation to both government and opposition assemblymen.

Hajiji had said the state Rural Development Ministry was given a special allocation of RM188.2 million.

Meanwhile,in a statement, Moyog assemblyman Datuk Darell Leiking said they appreciate the Chief Minister's willingness to assist opposition assemblymen in accessing funds directly from the government.

"However, actions must follow words, and we urge the immediate establishment of the proposed committee to expedite the process and address the urgent needs of the people.

"Transparency is essential in ensuring that development funds are utilised effectively for the benefit of all Sabahans.

"We call on the government to prioritise transparency and accountability in future allocations to build trust and confidence among the people.

"The government of the day is merely a trustee of the taxpayers' monies. Hence, the opposition representatives should have access to the allocation in the same manner as the government assemblymen."
