oh 28 sens I believe should be no problem for Harimau. I am looking at higher of course since profitability would most likely increase as well since OPR increase.

.... 'Maybank IB named Public Bank Bhd, Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd, CIMB Group Holdings Bhd, Tenaga Nasional Bhd and Hong Leong Bank Bhd as the top five stocks in Malaysia sold by foreign investors in June.

The market top buys were Malayan Banking Bhd, Gamuda Bhd, YTL Corp Bhd, Westports Holdings Bhd and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd.'...

@stkoay according to NST article, why was PBB among the top five sell down stocks by foreign investors? Seeing that the price already considered low atm. I mean can considered a bargain given the TP by brokers way above 4.xx, really surprised why FF chose to push down PBB and CIMB too.

@BlackDiamond you should also explore Harimau, DY is above +6% compared to PBB at +4%. without the Old Man, market is now jittery as they are not sure who will eventually take over excess balance of share holdings ownership of the PBB as his heirs cannot hold more than a set 10% (if not mistaken) of share holdings. also all his beneficiaries probably having table talk at this very moment as well. a lot of uncertainties. that's another reason why this stock is sluggish. any who, market can be certainly unpredictable. for all our sake as PBB investors, hope you are right too. peace

On the subject of Value of diamonds, some interesting facts from my source (Tiny Virus laaa)....

1. The rarest diamond color is red. Natural fancy red diamonds are so scarce that even tiny red diamonds can command auction-worthy prices. Only 1 carat out of every 10,000 carats mined is a natural fancy colored diamond, making rarer colors with high saturation extremely valuable.

2. The cost of a pink diamond will range from $10,000 per carat for a less intense pink diamond to $700,000 per carat for a deep and intense pink diamond. The color intensity and carat weight of pink diamonds are the two most important factors that

3. In comparison to the rarer fancy colored diamonds, natural black diamonds are relatively affordable, and comparable in price to colorless diamonds. A fancy black diamond will cost anywhere in the region of $3000 to $5000 per carat. This would mean your average 1 carat wedding ring is likely to cost $3000.

4. While large natural black diamonds like the Black Orlov are exceptionally rare, you’ll find black diamond jewelry readily available.

on this note, noticed that the last shareholders report on shareholdings for PBB was on 28 June? When will the report for 29 & 30 June report be out? The last time I saw this happened was with either Harimau or Tenaga. EPF heavily sell down but the report was not out till a few days later. Normally companies have a few days grace period to report on changes in shareholdings. Well I could be wrong but I noticed big funds always take turns to buy and sell, today is EPF buy, tomorrow EPF sell, Amanah take over and vice versa. Almost as if they work together to control the market price. Maybe it's coincidence, maybe not. Looking at the RSI today its on the decline and MACD line is tapering off into negative... If all anyone feels strongly that the bull will continue to rise, please go ahead and buy more

@BlackDiamond I don't speculate my friend. I sold down cause I wanted to lower my average holding price for PBB. That's the difference. Like Harimau, been holding PBB since mid 2020 so no... am not a speculator. Reason why PBB will drop further is because their profitability NIM has been on decline since last quarter unlike Harimau. look at the chart line and you'll see. This was the reason why PBB although well managed and making profits but share price still stuck on ground floor. I want to lower my entry cost for PBB cause I want to maximise my DY. Maybe my investment strategy might seem strange to some investor's like you but it has worked well for me and no reason why I should change now. I just share with fellow PBB investors here that it is likely that the share price will continue to move sideways until the next QTR report. If it is good, then a breakout will continue. looking at today's price at 3.91 its already buy rate at 65%, want to bet that it will drop back down before the day is over? I just share my sincere views here. Not expecting anyone to take me seriously. Btw, the buy rate which I share was what we learned from my Broker Bank's Head of Analysis. Just becareful dont fall into the 'Bull Trap'

meanwhile, just my 2 sens but i dun think state election will have much impact on bank stocks. if you say sin stocks like gaming alcohol stocks then bit possibility like what happened to PAS led states on Magnum and Toto counters etc. more likely federal election will impact all stocks whether banking or sin stocks as major policy change will impact foreign investors.

@cwc1981 yeah, I also suspect as much. I know why PBB dropped but didn't expect Harimau to also dropped by so much too. our politicians should know by now, market will react with knee jerk reaction to every single word that comes out of their mouth. market is probably afraid of another moratorium or some kind of other assistance. or maybe big shark want to goreng for shareholder returns as well

meanwhile, don't be too worried as there will be plenty of opportunity to escape in July and until early August as Dividend announcement will usually come end August before mid Sept ex-date. big sharks doing their best to eat profit here and there for stakeholders returns. I have a feeling its was our EPF sell off just now as they have been buying so heavy these past few days. we'll know by tomorrow. if indeed EPF then what someone share before is true. when EPF buys, you sell. when they sell you buy. I saw them buying up a lot lately so I was expecting them to sell off soon especially when Dividend announcement only in August. then this 'good news' article came out.. sweet.. just my ticket to escape.. so sharks happily goreng a bit and sell off made a huge killing, trapping the billis in process

@speakup not just Radium. IPOs are now not a sure fire way to make a quick buck any more. case in point some IPOs are over valued based on the perceive future value and promising future but if doesn't deliver the results (FY2023) will also fall - see FFB, Farm Fresh Bhd, from IPO offer price of 1.35, and dropped as much as 1.28 on 9/6/23. my feeling is that it is not a good time to invest in IPO as its like gambling. unless you apply get it and sell on opening bell to make a quick buck. I applied for CTOS IPO when it was offered at 1.10 and advice by my remisier to sell and not hold on to it. sold at 1.62 few days later and got a nice change. although it did eventually peaked at 2.06 the next 2 days.. oh well.. at least i got something. price now 1.40 due to not so rosy outlook for counter by analysts.

@stkoay from my preliminary findings, seems that RHB which usually pays out 30% as dividend has since the last 2 years revised pay out 50% after 2022 strong performance (ROCE 9.7%) as dividend resulting in DY of between 6% to 7% for that counter hence that is why the stock has been so popular and 2023 and 2024 (RHB expect ROCE at 11.5%) they are also expected to continue with this generous pay out too until next year at least (news reported in Feb 2023). But like you said, is it too late to enter now since market would have probably priced in the expected upcoming earnings and adjusted accordingly.

anyway, wish @happybuying the best in his search for the portfolio that fits his play style.

@happybuying another tip which I have shared before with the Harimau fans here last time is that I do not average down just to make it dropped a few sens (which in your case for RHB is only 0.03) this is because you sacrifice possible Maybank dividend of rm1160 i.e. average dividend 0.58 * 2000 in order to average down only 0.03 sens for RHB. worth it? - only you can decide. for me if i want to average down, i make sure that when I average down the price different is at least 5-10 sens depending on the amount i spend (depending on the share price) or i can feel the impact. . if i invest least then 5k to average down 5 sens it is worth it, if i spend 15k-20k it better be at least 10 sens otherwise i would be committing more funds in the counter which may drop further. ever heard of some investors and their 'falling knife' theory? no? its okay, we all live and learn eventually. what would kill you will hopefully make you stronger. day trading is very stressful as you need to monitor daily. question is do you have the stomach to enjoy the roller coaster? for stkoay and myself at this moment we are sitting back enjoying our glass of ice tea and chilling out in the sidelines while we wait for August announcement ;-)

Stock

2023-06-21 16:12 | Report Abuse

@happybuying depends what is your long term strategy. being a day trader or valued dividend stock investor. calculate your possible annual DY for each stock. whichever gives you the possible higher yield based on the average dividend returns annual ideally should be your choice. on this note, if u managed to buy stock low at low price and enjoy the 'paper gain' and high DY consider your luck. if one chooses to be a day trader, one better be day trading in HUGE volumes. otherwise it's only a waste of your time and cause you to be stressed just to make a quick buck. if day trading is your cup of tea, then if you see the same few old foggies here enjoying their yield and steady income stream, dont ask why they have what they have and what they did the things they do to enjoy where they are now.... peace

@happybuying in addition to just pure Dividends, consider taking up their DRIP when the chance arises. it will pay off handsomely in future too. Nothing beats FREE shares. It lowers your average holding price too! This tip I learn from brother @stkoay

Stock

2023-06-20 15:45 | Report Abuse

@stkoay, '...bullets to top up when there's sharp correction. A very safe investment strategy. ...'

like last dividend, before ex-date it was last traded at 8.74. I parked my funds at 8.44 for next day expecting it to drop 30 sens before increasing back so try luck to get at the price. of course we all know that it when further down to 8.34. reason why i didn't buy prior to ex-date was because I didn't was to buy at so high a price just to get the dividend and increase my overall average price, for me at least every increase in average price will reduce my buffer should Harimau again drop very low down to below RM8 and I want to plan my 'exit' before then.. additionally, when you buy low, you will also gain when price will go up again eventually .... like now. so its a safer bet for me...

Nobody can tell if another similar catastrophic event or global recession will happen again in future. No one foresaw Germany entered technical recession last 3 weeks. Now the media are saying the same about to happen to Europe too (https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/international/business/eurozone-in-recession-at-start-of-2023/articleshow/100848910.cms). maybe am playing too safe as an investor but when your life savings at stake better safe than sorry

@aNoobie 70% EPF ... Its currently the best place as it is well managed.

Stock

2023-06-20 15:08 | Report Abuse

@stkoay, currently 70% stuck at EPF. I'll keep pumping in for next 2-3 years. switching portfolio instead of holding too much liquidity. waiting to capitalise on EPF free annual dividends. As long as I withdraw less than my annual dividends, my EPF should keep on increasing. FYI, am now semi retired (not by choice) and will reach official retirement in a few years time. Hence why less in riskier investments for me. In case anyone wondering, our EPF is currently one of the best managed funds in the world. if the government continue to leave it alone and not interfere in their investments, members will also be good when they retire. Manny like me no choice but need to think out of the box for cashflow liquidity as very soon will soon be unable to find meaningful employment. The government isnt going to help you unfortunately.

For EPF idea, just sharing with fellow Harimau investors only. All it takes is some caring and sharing and we all reap the benefits together. Stay strong, invest smarter and prosper together.

TBH Harimau DY is good for me atm as I average down due to previous DIRP issues. but for the amount I invested in Harimau which is almost 12 x which I had invested in YTLP, my paper gain is the same amount... which is sad. on the hindside, if i had switched all my Harimau and add to my YTLP, I would have made at least a cool 291K in clean profit instead of just 15K now! with all that profit, park all in EPF and slowly nibble the yearly dividends!
