Bachelor of Arts degress from the University of Adelaide, Australia and also a postgraduate Diploma in Public Policy and a Masters of Philosophy (Economic Development) from the University of Glasgow.

Datuk Boniface is a retired Government Servant. Beginning his career in the Sabah State Civil Service in 1959, Datuk Boniface had served in land, district, local government administration as well as private sector management. He formerly held positions of Deputy Director of the State Economic Planning Unit and Director of Bumiputra Participation Unit as well as Deputy Permanent Secretary with the State Ministry of Finance. He also served as Secretary of the State Inquiry Commission and later as State Director of Establishment. In the private sector, he served as Chairman of Progressive Insurance Sdn Bhd for three years from 1992 to 1994. Just prior to his retirement in June 1996, Datuk Boniface was the Deputy State Secretary from May 1994. Now he runs his own company as well as sits as Chairman of the Board of Governors of Sabah Institute of Technology since January 1996. He also serves as the Board Member of Saham Sabah Berhad and Pusat Latihan BDC Sdn Bhd.
