After graduation, he joined the Judicial and Legal Service of the Malaysian Government as a Deputy Public Prosecutor and Federal Counsel and subsequently ventured into the private sector and served Malaysian International Shipping Corporation (MISC) as an Assistant Company Secretary & Legal Adviser and later as Director of Corporate Affairs, Island & Peninsular Berhad, the property arm of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) for 24 years. Whilst in the private sector, he also served as Ahli Majlis MARA, director of Amanah Raya Berhad and Tabung Haji group of companies as well as various other directorships in government-linked companies.
