Encik Ahmad Ruslan trained as a Chartered Accountant in a London firm after graduation. In 1986 he joined Merchants Business Growth Consulting, a pan European marketing consulting company, as its Group Financial Controller. In 1993, he left Europe and joined what is now CIMB Investment Bank Berhad in the Corporate Finance Department. In 1997, he assisted in the formation of Commerce Asset Ventures, the venture capital arm of CIMB Group. In 2000, he joined Clear Channel Communications, Inc., the leading global media organisation listed on the New York Stock Exchange as ASEAN Regional Director/Managing Director of the Malaysia operations.

In 2005, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer ("CEO") of Terengganu Incorporated, a strategic investment holding company for the State. In 2008, he joined, as CEO, Armstrong Marine & Offshore Sdn. Bhd., the official representatives of Armstrong Corporation Holdings in Asia and the Pacific Rim, a company involved in offshore and shipping investments, oil trading, finance and project development. Since 2010, he is the CEO of Sungai Temau Mining (M) Sdn. Bhd., an iron ore mining company.

Currently he is the Independent Non-Executive Chairman and Independent Non-Executive Director of Spring Gallery Berhad and Minetech Resources Berhad respectively; all of which are listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad. He is also a director of several private limited companies.
