Datuk Muhamad Noor Hamid obtained a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Mechanical Engineering
from Sunderland Polytechnic, England in 1977 and a Post Graduate Diploma in Natural Gas Engineering
from the Institute of Gas Technology in Chicago, Illinois, United States of America in 1980. He had also attended the Management Program in 1992 at the Wharton Business School of Management, University of Pennsylvania, United States of America.

Datuk Muhamad Noor Hamid has more than 30 years of direct working experience in the oil and gas industry ranging from project planning and implementation, operation, consulting and contracting. His latest position was as the Managing Director of Gas Malaysia Sdn Bhd responsible for the overall management of all strategic issues of the Company. He was appointed as the Managing Director in April 2006.
 
He has held numerous positions in Petronas Gas Bhd, including Head of the PGU II pipeline project team and Head of the Transmission Division responsible for the whole pipeline operation in Malaysia. He also worked in OGP Technical Services Sdn Bhd, a Petronas/Novacorp joint venture company, where he was the General Manager of the Pipeline Division. His expertise has taken him to overseas assignments mainly in Sudan and Thailand. He left Petronas in 2000. 
 
Prior to joining Gas Malaysia, Datuk Muhamad Noor was the Chief Operating Officer of Projass Engineering Sdn Bhd, a class A Bumiputra contractor involved in infrastructure, electrical and oil and gas construction. 
                                                
Datuk Muhamad Noor was a member of the Working Committee of the International Gas Union. He was appointed Associate Professor of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia from 2007 to 2009.
