Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biochemistry from University of Sussex, England and is a Fellow member of The Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators.

Pauline Tan Suat Ming started her career as a chemist with Malayan Sugar Manufacturing Company Bhd from 1969 to 1972. She then joined Tan Kim Yeow Sendirian Berhad as an Executive Director in 1976 and subsequently joined Wah Seong (Malaya) Trading Co. Sdn Bhd in 1983 and was made an Executive Director in 1994.

1. Dato' Seri Robert Tan Chung Meng and Pauline Tan Suat Ming are siblings.
2. Mr Daniel Yong Chen-I, is the son of Pauline Tan Suat Ming and nephew of Dato' Seri Robert Tan Chung Meng. Daniel Yong is an Alternate Director to Pauline Tan in Wah Seong Corporation Berhad. 
3. Mr Tan Jian Hong, Aaron is the nephew of Dato' Seri Robert Tan Chung Meng and Pauline Tan Suat Ming.
