Ph.D specialising in air pollution and vegetation from University of Sheffield, United Kingdom (1979)

He is an Emeritus Professor at the Faculty of Environmental Studies, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). He was Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs at UPM between 16/6/2000 and 7/4/2005. Prior to that (1980-1999) he held several administrative positions. He served as a member of Malaysian Environmental Quality Council (EQC) from 1994 to 2009, an appointment appointed by the then Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment Malaysia. He was Chairman of National Sub-Committee 5 - Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)/TC 207/ISO 14000 series of Environmental Management Standards and the recipient of Langkawi Award in 2000. He also served as an advisor and member of the thinktank group of the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (then) on Research, Development, and Commercialisation and was appointed as Chairman of Technical Committee for the Establishment of Public Research Universities and, also as a resource person on behalf of Ministry of Education Malaysia and Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) for the assessment of University Good Governance Index practices in Malaysian Higher Education Institutions. He chaired the Climate Change Technical Committee for Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM), a committee member of the International Council of Science (ICSU) for Asia and the Pacific Region between 2005 and 2010, and concurrently served as Council Member of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia between 2008 and 2011. He has recently retired as Vice Chancellor of SEGi University after 8 years of services. He is still actively involved in Low Carbon Economy and Climate Change research and development programm sponsored by the Ministry of Education Malaysia under the Long-term Research Grant Scheme (LRGS). He has also recently served as member of National Strategic Plan for Higher Education (PSPTN) Review Team for the establishment of the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2015-2025 (Higher Education).
