Madam Chee Suan Lye is a member of the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Madam Chee Suan Lye commenced her professional career with Price Waterhouse in 1978. 

Thereafter, Madam Chee Suan Lye joined Hoechst Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a multinational pharmaceutical company, as its Financial Controller and later on as its Group Company Secretary. 

In 1983, she joined The Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM) as its Executive Secretary. And later she took the office of an  Executive Director. She retired from office in 2008. 

Additionally, Chee Suan Lye held several directorships in the following companies:
Member of board of Directors of AFC Holdings (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd from 2000 to 2008. Member of board of Directors of BCF Holdings Sdn Bhd from 1985 to 2008. 
Member of board of Directors of ABM-MCD Holdings Sdn Bhd (now known as ABM Investments Sdn Bhd) from 1991 to 2008. 
Member of board of Directors of Banking Mediation Bureau in Malaysia when it was first set up in 1996 and subsequently the Financial Mediation Bureau in Malaysia from 2004 to 2008.
Member of board of Directors of Bolton Properties Bhd (now known as Symphony Life Berhad) from 1986 to 1998.  

Additionally, Madam Chee Suan Lye was also on the Permanent Committee of Intra Regional Relations of the ASEAN Banking Council.
