Most Asian stock markets finished mixed on Tuesday with Singapore’s STI (+1.10%) and Hong Kong’s HSI (+0.88%) leading the gainers. The local benchmark FBMKLCI (KLCI) ended marginally higher to end the day at 1,538.42, up 0.88pts or 0.06%. It was largely a green day in terms of sectors with the largest gainers being healthcare (+0.88%), property (+0.79%) and construction (+0.65%). The top losers were utilities (-0.50%), telecommunications (-0.32%) and energy (-0.12%). Trading volume rose marginally to 3.83bn (up from 3.76bn on Monday) while trading value climbed to RM3.04bn (up from RM2.56bn previously). Market breadth turned positive as 570 gainers beat 472 decliners.

The benchmark was little changed yesterday, still stuck in its sideways consolidation. We believe that the current sideways trend is part of the benchmark’s base-building phase, forming a nice base above 50-day EMA. The consolidation is likely to continue for a while longer with support seen at 1,525-1,531 followed by the critical support at 1,508-1,521. On the upside, 1,545-1,550 is the immediate resistance before KLCI attempts to tackle the 20-month high at 1,559 and beyond. The longer-term resistance is placed at 1,570-1,583. Our portfolio stays in *risk-on mode* this week.
