BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN : Those previously infected with Covid-19 during the first wave can still contract the highly infectious Delta variant, which has already occurred in other countries, said Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Mohd Isham Jaafar on Tuesday (Sept 7).

The minister was responding to a query during the daily press conference on Tuesday.

“But the symptoms won’t be so bad if a person became re-infected, even after being vaccinated,” said the minister.

The patient will have developed natural antibodies, as most of the T-cells can ‘remember’ the virus, said the minister.

Asked if food handlers who have tested positive for Covid-19 are capable of infecting others through raw food packaging, the minister said, “The World Health Organization (WHO) raised concerns about the matter, last year. But at present, there is no strong evidence to suggest that, and the link is quite weak.

“However, we will need to exercise caution by cleaning the food.

“Consequently, we don’t quarantine many food packages these days.”
