QUANG NAM : Authorities of the central province of Quang Nam have helped two Russian tourists begging for money on the streets of Tam Ky City earlier last week.

Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thanh Van, deputy chief of Tam Ky Police, told the media on Monday (March 20) that the city’s police and immigration department has been coordinating to verify information about the two foreigners begging on a street corner on March 15.

They were holding a cardboard sign for passersby with the message "help, no money" at the Hung Vuong-Tran Cao Van intersection.

The two foreigners were identified as Russian tourists.

They travelled to Vietnam but ran out of money in Tam Ky City, so they begged locals to pay their way.

The authorities told the two tourists not to continue with the activity, and the Tam Ky Red Cross Society provided them with financial support.

On March 17, two Russian tourists left Tam Ky for the neighbouring province of Quang Ngai.

Two weeks ago, two tourists - one male and one female - were also spotted standing at the corner of Ton Duc Thang-Ngo Van So intersection in Lien Chieu District, Danang City, holding a cardboard saying "help, no money".

The photos caused a stir among the public when they were posted on social media.

The Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Danang asked local authorities to investigate, but the two foreigners had already moved on.
