JOHANNESBURG, April 23 -- South African police on Monday confiscated blocks of cocaine with a street value of 15 million rand (about 785,000 U.S. dollars) on board a cargo vessel traveling from Columbia, the South African Police Service said Tuesday.

Police conducted the confiscation at the Richards Bay Port of Entry, KwaZulu-Natal Province, by working with South African customs officials and other external stakeholders, the police said in a statement.

"Police members received information about a vessel that was traveling from Columbia to Richards Bay Port of Entry. It was indicated that the vessel was importing iron to South Africa, and it was also carrying drugs. An enquiry was registered, and a disruptive operation was planned," the police said.

No arrest has been made at this stage, and police will continue to work together with other stakeholders to track and trace the perpetrators involved in this drug trafficking, according to the statement.
