PASIR Salak MP Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman has confirmed his appointment as Malaysia’s ambassador to Indonesia.

“It’s true,” the former Prasarana chairperson in a brief message to news portal Malaysiakini.

Earlier today online portal MalaysiaNow quoted diplomatic sources who revealed that Tajuddin’s appointment has received approval from the Indonesian Government under President Joko Widodo.

Tajuddin will be filling the vacancy left by Datuk Zainal Abidin Bakar who was appointed as ambassador to Indonesia in 2018 under the then-Pakatan Harapan administration.

Prior to Tajuddin’s confirmation Indonesian news agency Antara had reported on his rumoured appointment since October last year. Said rumour was later fueled by his presence during Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah’s formal visit to Jakarta in November 2021.

Tajuddin was previously dismissed from his position as chairperson of the Government’s public transportation company Prasarana Malaysia Bhd after his disastrous handling of a press conference on May 25, 2021 to address the two-train collision on the LRT Kelana Jaya line at KLCC that injured over 200 passengers.

He had drawn heavy criticism for his lack of empathy for the victims of the tragedy as well as his lack of professionalism when handling questions from the press. – May 17, 2022
