KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi continued to push for the 15th General Election (GE15) to be held immediately, amid calls by Pasir Salak member Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman's yesterday for him to step down as party president.

In a Facebook post, Zahid said it was not only Umno that wanted Parliament to be dissolved and make way for the next polls.

He claimed that former Electoral Reform Committee chairman and former Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman also wanted GE15 to be held immediately "for the legitimate democracy mandate to be returned to the people".

He wrote: "The (current) government is not stable due to various characters and parties, which is not good for the country.

"He (Rashid) added that the economy is worsening and that investors are fleeing (the country)," said Zahid, who is also Barisan Nasional chairman.

"Rashid, a former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) vice-president but now just a Bersatu party member, gave his honest opinion based on his 30-year experience in the EC."

The posting was accompanied by a screenshot of an interview with Rashid by a news portal.
