KOTA KINABALU: Former Sabah Infrastructure Development Minister Datuk Peter Anthony was freed by the Special Corruption Court here today on five counts of money-laundering involving RM8.75 million and abetting a lawyer in committing criminal breach of trust (CBT).
Judge Abu Bakar Manat discharged and acquitted Peter after the prosecution from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) declared that Peter's representation was accepted.
Deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Haresh Prakash Somiah asked the court to give Peter a discharge not amounting to an acquittal on all the six charges.
However, counsel Martin Tommy asked for a discharge and acquittal, which the court granted.
Lawyer Michael Ubu, from Sabah, who was accused of committing CBT in a Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (Risda) land deal in 2014, failed to have his representation accepted.
His case will undergo mention on Oct 12.
