KUALA NERUS: Pas has denied claims it is seeking to become Umno's ally because Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) had lost its influence.

Pas Deputy President Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man instead described Bersatu as having their own strengths and influence.

"I don't think it will (lose its influence) because of the state election results in Johor and Malacca. We see that Bersatu's influence is still strong and there is support.

"Even the results of the survey we did showed that they have support, and they had won (seats) in Melaka and in Johor.

"I think Bersatu is influential even though the machinery (at their) branch (level) may not be as strong as Pas (of the) old. In reality, we have about 43 per cent of fence sitters who are voting for the first time and we see that there is a tendency for them (to vote) for our friends from Bersatu," he said.

Tuan Ibrahim said this when met after the Pas Menteri Besar's 3rd Ceramah and the GE15 Election Machinery Launch here last night.

He also denied allegations that Bersatu was only with Pas to make use of its election machinery to face GE15.

He said Pas together with Bersatu and other Perikatan Nasional (PN) component members will help each other ensure victory in GE15.

"We are together (and) when we have a political consensus, there is no question of (election) machinery (and) we are together towards our common victory.

"(So) there is no question of riding on the coat tail because for us each party has its own advantages and disadvantages, in that we accommodate each other," he said.
