KANGAR: PKR respected the decision by the Shah Alam High Court on Friday, which acquitted Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, of all corruption charges involving the Foreign Visa System contract (VLN).

Its president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, however, said the party wanted to see Attorney-General Tan Sri Idrus Harun executing his duties to ensure all corruption offenders be prosecuted in court.

"Our stance is consistent. If the court process is fair, the verdict delivered by the judge should be respected.

"The verdict however does not mean that the decision is final since there are other avenues for cases like this, since an appeal could still be filed (by the prosecution team)," he told reporters after chairing at Perlis PKR leadership council (MPN) meeting here today.

Although there were disputes over the technicalities of the case, Anwar said the party would respect the decision handed down by the court.

It was reported that Zahid was freed of 40 charges of receiving bribes from Ultra Kirana Sdn Bhd (UKSB) to extend its VLN contract.

The judge had ruled that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against the 69-year-old Bagan Datuk member of Parliament.
