KUALA LUMPUR: Lim Kit Siang today hit out at Datuk Seri Najib Razak, saying the latter must make a full and clear statement on fugitive Low Taek Jho, or Jho Low, should he want to discharge his duties as a Member of Parliament (MP).

"If Najib wants to discharge his duties until he is disqualified as MP, he should make a full and clear statement on the history of his relationship with Jho Low, the other mastermind in the 1MDB financial scandal.

"He should also tell Malaysians whether it was Jho Low who made use of him, or vice versa," said the Iskandar Puteri MP in a post on his blog.

Lim said recent events had highlighted the special relationship between the two in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) financial scandal.

"These include the testimony of former AmBank managing director Cheah Tek Kuang that Jho Low rode in the convoy ferrying him to Najib's residence in 2011 and his presence when the AmBank account opening forms were signed.

"Also, the statement by two journalist-authors of the 1MDB scandal book "Billion Dollar Whale" that no one in Malaysia has asked China for the return of Jho Low, despite what was previously reported.

"There is also the news report that Jho Low is not on Interpol Red Notice list," he said.

On Monday, the former prime minister's lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah told a press conference that Najib wants the Prison Department to consider allowing him to visit his constituency in Pekan once in a while to fulfil his duties as MP.

The move, according to Shafee, is to allow Najib to hear the grouses of the people and to delegate work to his aides, before returning to prison.
