KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says Malaysia needs to hold the 15th General Election fast as it is racing against time to fight the economic recession expected to occur next year.
He said the forecasted global economic recession was not made up by Barisan Nasional but based on reports by international financial and economic organisations.
The Bagan Datuk MP cited that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had three months ago projected that the prospects of the global economy had plunged since April this year and that the world would face the economic recession soon.
"This means there is only less than three months before the recession that will affect most countries starts or becomes worse, maybe as early as December this year.
"Malaysia is in need of a stable and strong government that can move ahead together in charting an effective direction and strategies to protect Malaysia from negative impacts," he said in a Facebook post.
Zahid further said it had been proven that there were no able political coalitions since May 9, 2018 other than BN.
"Malaysia had gone through a bitter experience being under a failed government for 22 months in the hands of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and 17 months of Perikatan Nasional (PN).
"The country under the PH administration had a chaotic government, disorganised and prioritised political agenda over the importance of the people and nation.
"Under PN, though it had the representation of BN, it was led by deceptive political leaders who wanted to end their opponents to strengthen their position.
"Malaysia, with the existence of a unity government now, sees a prime minister who is disrespected, attacked and attempted to be weakened by the administrative members from other parties," he said.
Zahid said he was confident that the people would give the strong support to BN to form the dominant government as it had proved its ability to manage the country's economy.
He also hoped that the people's wish to have the mandate return to them would materialise.
