SEREMBAN: Barisan Nasional deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan can be nominated for deputy prime minister in the unity government.
Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, who is also the state Pakatan Harapan chief, said Mohamad, who is popularly known as Tok Mat, had the traits for the position.
"Tok Mat is among those Umno can nominate for the position of deputy prime minister. But the power of nomination rests on the party chief (BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi)."
Aminuddin said he would support the nomination of Mohamad, who is also Umno deputy president and Negri Sembilan Umno chairman.
"Umno has many suitable candidates. But personally, as someone from Negri Sembilan, I would support him (Mohamad)," he said outside the state assembly hall today.
It was reported that BN had empowered Zahid to nominate a deputy prime minister from the coalition.
MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan was reported to have said that the matter had been discussed during the BN supreme council meeting recently.
In a media conference after being sworn-in as prime minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said two deputy prime ministers would be appointed, one from BN and another from Gabungan Parti Sarawak.
