PETALING JAYA: Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan (pic) has been told not to interfere in the Registrar of Societies (ROS) probe on the possible violation of the party's constitution through the no-contest motion for its top two posts, says a Terengganu party member.

Aizat Fikri Nasir, who lodged a report with the ROS over the no-contest motion, disputed Ahmad Maslan's earlier statement, saying that he received a letter from the department dated Jan 26 stating that it was still in the midst of checking and investigating his complaint.

"The statement made by the party secretary-general (Ahmad Maslan) suggesting that the issue has been resolved is 'premature'.

"I hope he does not pre-empt the RoS or interfere with the ongoing probe. This could affect the people’s trust in the department," he said in a statement on Friday (Jan 3).

Earlier, Ahmad Maslan said the passing of a no-contest motion for the president and deputy president posts during the recent 2022 Umno General Assembly did not breach the party's constitution or rules.

"Everything went smoothly. About 90% of the delegates agreed that the president and deputy president posts would not be contested.

"There have been many times in Umno's 77-year history that the positions have not been contested," he said in a Facebook posting on Friday (Feb 3).

On Jan 31, senior Umno representatives met and provided an explanation to the Registrar of Societies (RoS) regarding the passing of the motion.

The meeting was set following the actions of two Umno members, who on Jan 20 lodged complaints with the RoS to review the additional motion on no-contest for the top two posts approved during the general assembly.

In his complaint, Aizat alleged that the no-contest resolution was invalid and contravened the party constitution.

Terengganu Umno liaison chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Said had distanced himself from Aizat's complaint, saying the latter had acted on his own.
