KUALA LUMPUR: The B40-friendly Menu Rahmah meals will be expanded to higher education institutions in Malaysia.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said discussions were being held between his ministry and the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry.

"This programme will be expanded to universities in the near future.

"I believe that my ministry is in discussions with Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

"I think there should be no problems implementing Menu Rahmah in public universities," he said at a press conference after the soft launch of the UCSI University Bangladesh campus here, today.

Menu Rahmah, launched on Jan 31, is an initiative by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry with the cooperation of participating outlets to serve lunch or dinner sets at the recommended price of RM5.

Each meal is balanced to include rice, a choice of protein such as chicken or fish, a portion of vegetables and a drink.
