PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has recorded statements from more than 15 individuals in its investigations on funds received by Bersatu during the former administration.

"So far, statements have been recorded from more than 15 individuals, which involve Bersatu leaders and also contractors who are believed to have given money to the party," Sinar Harian reported on Saturday (Feb 4).

"Investigations are still ongoing and a few more individuals and witnesses will be called up," a source was quoted as saying.

On Thursday (Feb 2), graft investigators have frozen the accounts of Bersatu to look into its money flow and the RM300mil the party is said to have received.

Sources familiar with the investigations have told The Star that it was believed that the money that Bersatu received was from contractors who had been awarded contracts during the then administration.

It is believed the two Bersatu accounts contained RM40mil when they were frozen.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki had said that the investigations on Bersatu's accounts were under the MACC Act and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act.
