KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad wants to know the reason behind his disastrous performance in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Expressing dejection over his defeat which saw him losing his deposit, Dr Mahathir was adamant that he did not do anything wrong against the people of Langkawi.

"I was voted out and lost 14,000 votes. I do not know what I did wrong. What did I do?" he said when met after attending an event in Langkawi last night.

In the GE15, Dr Mahathir lost the Langkawi parliamentary seat after securing only 4,566 votes.

He was defeated by Perikatan Nasional candidate Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah who won a vote-majority of 13,518.

He said the voters' rejection against him was a "little" upsetting despite his efforts to develop the island, through among the others, its status as a duty free zone in 1987.

"I'm not sulking, but I did a lot for Langkawi."
